DI water is short for deionized water. The water passes through cylinders that have plastic resins in them and it removes the cations and anions. It is purer than RO water, but the useful life of the cylinders depends on what area you live in, or more particularly the hardness of the water. You can rent the cylinders from most water softening companies.
