Hey guys.
So I've got a customer who was having his house painted last week. Everything was going great until the painter (who was on the roof painting the chimney) passed out from the heat, dropped his paint can on the shingles, and fell onto the deck below. Now they want me to do my best to clean off the mess. It's a big glob of while Latex paint. I was under the impression that sodium hydroxide won't do a lot to latex.
Any ideas on how to get this off?

Hope the painter fared better than the deck. When you say last week, how far into last week are we talking? A good deal should literally peel off - as hot and humid as it's been, it may well still be goopy. Rinse as much as humanly possible with water (garden hose is fine) - then try a sodium hydroxide based stripper. As new as it is you shouldn't have a huge problem. How old is the wood and was there a finish there? Also, what type of wood?

The painter was wearing an eye patch when I met him at the house. Other than that he seems fine. Not really sure what happened there. Are you sure Sodium Hydroxide will deal with latex paint?
It's on the roof not the deck. The painter actually pressure washed the junk out of the deck and (of course) cut a whole new surface of wood in doing so. No need to clean that off, sadly.
It was on thursday last week.

Ooooooohhh. Yuck. So, no, I'm not sure at all about using strong sodium hydroxide on paint on the roof. (It's bad for asphalt) The paint is all in the asphalt & granules...... Replacing the shingles would be our choice.
The latex paint will probably peel off the shingles, like it peels off a roller tray. If that doesn't work - new shingles will probly make the owner happiest.
