On July 14th. I posted a picture of a log wall titled " to much pressure. We got that cleaned up and this is where we are now. expect to have this wall completed today. Tomorrow we start tearing out the 40 foot back wall and completely rebuild it. I love log home restotation work.

hello mr. bilyeu,

are yall replacing every wall or something?? on the left side of the pic it looks like that is also new wood, or maybe just cleaned. Do yall build cabins also or just do extreme restorations?? in the log home restoration business, do you need to be able to do wall and log replacements to get most of you jobs?? as you know, i am trying to do my homework in log home restorations before i jump in, 'cause i don't really want to be experimenting on someone's lifelong dream home. That is the reason for all of the questions. House looks great, yall dont work too hard.

take care,

Hi Guys,

Yes Mike, we will clean all the new wood that goes up prior to applying the finish. We do this in order to remove any mill scale from the logs. Even hand hewn logs have mill scale.

Very good observation Jon. Originally, this had what is called a butt and pass system in the corners. We are changing them to a straight vertical log corners. We have to replace the logs on the ends of the wall in order to get them to butt up to the new vertical collums.

Log home restoration to me is more than just stripping one down and refinishing. There are a number of people out there and that's all they do. We are a complete log home restoration company. We strip, seal, chink, caulk, dry rot repair, log replacement and anything else that goes with it. No, we do not build them ( not yet anyway ). The more you can do to a log home, the more work you'll get. We've already had a contractor and two home owners wanting me to look at their homes from just this job alone. It is really the same as doing decks, the more you can do ( repair/rebuild ) the more jobs you'll get.

Well it's dinner time. Talk to you all later.
