Default pump question

Here is a newb question.

While your pressure washing machine is running, without pulling the trigger on your lance, does the pump recirculate water to prevent it from burning up? Do you have to have a tank with O2 on stand by for the pump to draw from to prevent this?

Do you mean H2O? If the engine is running, so is the pump. If there is no demand for pressure, the water that has been drawn into the pump recirculates. If you have a tank that you are drawing from, it bypasses back to it. If you don't, then there is a small black hose that runs from one fitting to another on the pump that bypasses the water back to the pump. When idling, this water is repeatedly recycled, collecting heat from the friction of the pump. If allowed to recirculate too long, the pump will overheat.

Always better to ask this type of question before you have a problem.

Like John said, it would be best to
have a reservoir / tank that the bypass
water can circulate through keeping it
from overheating and damaging pump
components.

There are pump thermal relief valves
available also, however a bypass back
to a tank of about 15 gallon or more
capacity would be better.

Thanks you guys. Yes Jon I did mean H2O. lol Told ya I was a newb. I will defineatly go with a 15 gal tank to be on the safe side. So the way I understand this, the bypass has a valve that opens when the pressure within the pump reaches a certain psi? Is that correct? I'm trying to understand how the bypass stays in a closed system seperate from the main H2O supply?

Jetstream1, I'm in Hernando County.

Do you connect a line from the bypass unloader port to the container holding 15g of water, and then have a return line back to one of the inlets at the bottom of manifold?

Your pump would draw water from
the 15 gallon tank, and the unloader
would have a hose from the bypass
port back to the 15# gallon float tank.
