Default What type of wood do you most often work with?

I deal with Redwood 99% of the time the only other has been Iron Wood. Cedar rarely I hate cedar!

Why do I like doing Deck Refinishing? I like taking somthing that looks like crap and making it look like new. Why? Good question! I hate painting! Deck Refinishers don't paint!

You left out Cypress...one of the most beautiful decking/fencing woods I have ever worked with. Not sure about its use/availability outside the south. Then again, we don't get a lot of demand for redwood down here

Cypress interesting who would have thought.

I find it interesting that FIR is not showing up, I know its a bad wood for decks Mine is fir and 15 years old and starting to rot in a few places.

I have done 2 Iron wood decks I think it goes by a few names but thats one heck of a strong wood. I did a double decker and the whole thing had to be pre drilled and screwed. The guy went way over bid, but did great work.

Maybe some more votes will tell the story.

We talk to contractors all over the country and find our overall mix is 80% pressure-treated. Mahoghany shows up a lot in the northeast, redwood is dominant on the west coast.

I work with almost always Western Red Cedar. One PT deck in four years.

Most of our customers doing deck restorations are dealing with redwood.

Wolmans F&P is a favorite of our customers.

We just got a call for a Manganese Deck... it's a hardwood. Anyone out there know of this stuff? He wants TWP on it... diluted with MINERAL SPIRITS??

Oneness/Mike: I see you added Cypress and mentioned how nice it looks....

We had a Cypress fence put up last year, it turned grey really quick and is cracking quite a bit. (we're in the midwest). Have any suggestions for us? We started washing it, wanted to seal it, but noticed all the cracks and are waiting for the builder to come back.

Are these cracks typical? It's like huge slivers and it's like the top layers are also peeling off (like peeling skin).

We're a bit disappointed in the results of this wood. It's beautiful when it's clean, but it seems to be falling apart already.
