Stripping a Cedar Deck...any suggestions?
Alright, first I'll give you guys a little background.
I started my deck cleaning business this spring after researching it all winter, and have done about two dozen (part-time) in the past three months. All but about three have been cedar, and all gave very good results, as a result of much prior research and a small amount of trial and error on some friends decks and sample pieces I practiced on.
Before we go any further, let me assure you that I am not the dreaded "lowballer", just found my way into some nice neighborhoods with $300,000+ houses where the people will pay my $2.00+square ft. prices. (I also studied some guerilla marketing techniques.)
I have had to strip a few which had some remnants of oil based finishes, and used M@rgin Triple-D (applied with a garden sprayer, dwell 15 min., then rinse), and had good results. Also stripped the dreaded Sikkens Cetol with Stripex-L with some success, but NEVER again.
I'm scheduled to start a new job in about ten days on a cedar house with a cedar deck(600 sq. ft) that has a good amount of brownish oil-based stain left on it. Needless to say, I need to leave the stain on the house, but strip the deck as efficiently as possible. I can order more of what I've been using, but thought I'd see if anyone has any suggestions for making the job go faster. I use a 16 in. water broom on my pressure washer to rinse the flat surfaces, and have a telescoping wand for out-of-reach areas.
