Cedar Siding
Just found out why my cedar home keeps turing black. The builder used Behr Clear to stain the house and on their suggestion, I have used this product for the last 2 times the house was stained. Home Depot stated that they no longer sold the linseed based product due to EPA regulations (said nothing about the lawsuit), but was kind enough to sell me the last 5 gallon can they had 2 years ago.
The house had turned mostly black on almost 80% of the siding after two years. I used Sodium percarbonate to try to get clean and oxalic acid mixed with citric acid 50:50 as a brightner. Most black areas have come clean, but there are still black spots that cannot be removed even by scrubbiing with the percarbonate. The eves are black and wil not come clean. I really want the pos stain all the way off my house and to start over with a better product, but cannot seem to get some areas to strip. Any suggestions on what to use to strip the Behr stain off and what kind of stain to replace it with would be great.
I did not know about the Behr lawsuit until yesterday. I did contact them and will see if their company stands behind their product. No likley though.
Thanks for any info.
