Default Question on setup with tank

Question on mounting a tank with washer on a trailer. Does the water tank opening have to be level or above the pump? I was told this was so in order to flood the pump with water but i think he is wrong. He said since the pump cannot pull water thats how it had to be setup. But if i open the valve on the bottom of a tank the water floods out anyway. What the heck is that guy thinking?

I think as long as the PW and tank are mounted on a trailer and the water doesnt go below the valve it should be fine right? Could I get a couple pics of rigs setup so i can get an idea?

Thanks

Mark

Well these aren't the ones. They just don't show enough of what you need in this rig shot. I'll still keep looking for the ones of the other rig.

He's is possibly correct if you have a direct drive, and I know he is wrong if you are talking about a belt drive unit.

Iwould also bet that you have a d.d. pump.
If that is the case you were given the correct advice

I have a direct drive and a gear drive. Both run off a gravity tank. With the pump actually being a little higher then the tank. Been like this for 5 years no problem. But you do need to route the unloader back into the other side of the pump, since its not under a constant water pressure this make's sure the water is not just recirculating in front of the pump. Hope this helps.

Lightbulb

Here is a picture of the back of our White truck.

We use 2-500 gallon tanks. They are tied together with a 1-1/2 or 2" line. We then reduced down to 3/4" just before an inline filter and into the inlet of our pump.

One thing about "pulling water"
if you dont prime the feed line you, you start out sucking air.
This will cause damage every time you loose a prime or accidently run it dry.
I suggest that you plumb in a way to prime the feed line.
A simple y with a garden hose connector fitting will do.
$5 now can save you a lot latter.

The more you learn the more you earn! Thanks to everyone for their help.
