Amazing Fish Story

Not long ago a buddy and I were out fishing. We were working our way
back into a creek channel which was heavily wooded on both sides and
full of squirrels. As we trolled around a bend in the creek we saw an
old tree trunk that had fallen. There was about 15 foot of it running
from the bank out into the water. As we got closer we notices a squirrel
up on the bank end of this tree, and he was going nuts. He would run
part way down the tree then dart back to the bank, stop and chatter a bit
at a couple of other squirrels close by then run part way down the tree
again then back. We thought he was crazy.

As we got a little closer we noticed that right down where the tree
disappeared into the water, there was an acorn setting on the tree. Well,
we figured that squirrel wanted that acorn and he was afraid to go get it
since we were so close, so we stopped where we were and watched to
see if he would get brave enough to go get it. It was so funny watching
him running back and forth down that tree. With each trip down the tree
he would get a little closer each time. Then run back, stop and chatter like
hell for a bit at the other squirrels, then run down again. We were so
amused watching that squirrel, we forgot all about fishing.

After about 15 min. of running back and forth he finally got up the nerve
and made it all the way out to where the acorn was. As soon as he picked
it up, stuck it in his mouth and turned to make his getaway, the Biggest Bass I have
ever seen in my life jumped out of the water right beside the tree and the
squirrel. This bass had to be 3 ft long, had a mouth I could have stuck my
foot in, shoe and all. And of course neither of us had our rods ready,
we had been so amused watching that stupid squirrel. Well, anyway when that
bass broke the surface with that big mouth open, not only did it startle
us, but it also startled the squirrel as well. He had just turned to make his
getaway, but he froze like a deer in the headlights. That was
his last mistake. That bass sailed over the tree, grabbed the squirrel in his
mouth and disappeared into the water on the other side with a huge splash.

Well, you can't imagine how stunned we were to see what had just happened. It
was unbelievable. We were speechless and just sat there looking at that tree
in amazement. No one was ever going to believe what we had just seen, hell I
didn't even believe it myself. Why can't you ever have a camera ready when something
that amazing happens?

But you know what? That's not the amazing part of this story. The
amazing part is when we saw that bass ease back up out of the water and place
another acorn on that tree. Told you it was an Amazing Fish Story ;-)
