I hear alot of people on here complaing about the PWNA. I am not a member but will definitly join soon regaurdless of how good or bad it may be. A study done in various professions proved that more of the individuals/company's belonging to trade orgs. and other associations were overall more successful than those who didn't. Most joined these groups prior to their success.
I understand that everyone is going to do whats in their best interest as a first priority but we can't leave out whats in the best interest of the industry. The PWNA may not do whats in our best interest as individuals but does seem to do whats in the best interest for the industry as a whole but I can't speek on behalf of the PWNA. From what I read it seems to me that the PWNA is striving to build a sharper image everyday.
I read on one of the boards that if you aren't a part of the solution then you are part of the problem. I could't agree with that statement more, its right on.
Being new to this business funds are limited right now but If I can't budget in mebership dues and a seminar out of the revenue from this coming season I'm probaly in the wrong business. I probably spend more than $250.00 a year on Dr. Peppers and Snicker bars lol.
I appreciate the people who volunteer their time and I'm glad that a trade association actually exists for the power washing industry. I hope to become a member this coming season and help to better the industry.
P.S. Those of you who gripe about membership dues because you can come here to get free info. Its not free I paid $300.00 for internet access this past year and thats for dial up. Before I moved to the country I paid $480.00 for cable access.
Information is power and information cost money wether from books, internet, the PWNA, or just about any other scource.
I sorry to come on here and spout off like this but ney sayers piss me off. They keep the industry suppressed. Its like they are mad because other are doing better than they are.
This thread is not directed at any certain individual/s I've read so many negative posts on this as well as other boards I can't possibly remember them all.

Explain to me then why alot members in the past joined only to quit there members shortly after?

my taxes on 100 + acres is wheeeeeee ( non-of your business) BUT i choose to spend it year after year b/c I love the fact no body can move in on me . And the list of wasted $ could go on on on on ....................my point is IM getting something for my $

PWNA cant even tell us where the $ goes .......... Not to mention how much more $ the "classes" are for those seminars .. all for what ........ teach us how to wash a deck? gezzzzz any-idiot can was a deck and you can get y0ur training when you do your first job .. Oh but wait you get a certificate saying that you went to training spent money on a hotel , sat in class , paid your dues , paid for another class ( and was bored ) .

I will bet ya that you can go into anypart of my world and get any job without a "title" stating that you belong to some freakin org.
And I bet I can go into any part of the country and get any -job with-out any title ............

The people that drop out probably never got off to a good start in the first place. Its probably safe to say that the majority of those people never made a real effort to be active in the PWNA.
Its not important to me how much your taxes are I could care less. I also didn't say anything about wasted money. I was simply stating that if I and I did say "I" could spend that much money on something as insignificant as Dr. Peppers and Snickers that "I" or anyone else should be able to fork out the cash for membership. And not for a title or a logo you can perceive things however you want.
As far as where the money goes I don't know specifics of course but Its safe to assume that it goes to cover costs. Out of the 300 or so members there are thats only $7500.00 not very much money. And the seminars and classes offered well they probably have to charge the higher amount to insure that costs will be covered. Hey they might be able to lower that one day when membership increases who knows. But I know I'll get something for my $$$ too its just may take several years to see results. I bet you didn't see big results your first year in business. They probaly don't owe you an explenation anyway if you're money isn't being spent.
I recall on one of these boards if I remember right someone said something like all of the major players in the PWNA are just trying to market theirselves or their products. Thats what I call using the PWNA to your advantage. Thats American Free Enterprise.
Hey if you don't like it don't join but don't gripe.

It doesn't take much to piss you off does it,like most newbee's they are suckers for anything.I guess tho it depends on how successful you want to be,I can get my own business without anybodys help,cann't you,or are you going to be like most newbee's,already know it all.

If this pisses you off wait until you lose a account to another newbee which may belong to a group which may be the same group you belong to,want that be something or did you think by belonging to a group this want happen.

Nobody is telling you not to join,we are just saying what we would do, we where newbee's at one time.The bigger get bigger and the smaller get smaller,take a look around your town and see if I'm not right,who is in that group,is it not sorta controled.,,big dog eating little dog like you.You need to say out of the bathroom pissing altime or is that where you do your best work

As of lastnight I'm pulling my horns in on helping newbee's around here,I'm tired of the lowballing and lying they do which they think I do not know they are doing it,how stupid do they think I am.Just like a group tho,they do not care who they step on as long as someone isn't stepping on them b/c it pisses them off like you when I step on them.

If you belong to a group and someone else in your area also belongs to that group which one will get the most help or which one will the group give the new found business to,guess that would depend on how big you are in that group huh.So you see the only way to help one'self is to help yourself to any business you want if you want to be more succeeful than you are.Say a bigger dog moved into your area and belonged to your group but your still just a little dog,whats the group going to do,,,yeah eat you,like they say business is business when wanting to be more succeeful than you,,go getem tiger they don't care if it pisses you off either.

After giving a newbee several 1000 dallors worth of business,he was spitting nails lastnight when I told him I was taking a few of the accounts b/c of his lying and I used the words you used piss on him.

I go to do a bid and I got that thar pwna logo and "im " a member @ the bottom of my bid ..... and so does the rest of the bidders .........Now who gets the job and why?

but lets assume everybody has the logo >name< but me..... I bid on this job and get the job ....... but wait I didnt have the pwna thingy .....what is that going to say for those members that paid to be in such a club .......... and U R thinking huh thats simple you underbid everybody << okay lets assume I did isnt that business

but lets assume I didnt and my bid was higher .......... wheres the pwna ?

are they going to help ya out?
are they going to see you get more work b/c you are a member?
are they going to make you professional flyers to hand out?
are they going to educate you .................. ahhh yeah go to training and spend more $ for classes hotels, while Im still out bidding and getting jobs .

Im not trying to talk you into not joining ......... where this all started was another member "begging" for $ in a dif. BB ...
and it has snowballed over here..

if so then you are among those folks who only want to hear what they wanna hear.

join it man Im not stopping ya ......... I cant see how it will make your business anymore better ...... if you can prove to me that after a year or so you have made alota $ b/c you are a member then maybe I will jump on the ban-wagon .... untill then you speak + and dont mind me but I will be the -

My two cents worth is that if you want to spend your money join the Chamber of Commerce or the BBB in your area everybody has heard of these organizations before I got into pressure washing I had never heard of the PWNA. The BBB will give you integrity and the Chamber of Commerce will let you rub shoulders with business people in your area. The Chamber will also help you with other things and you dont have to fly off to Tim Buck Too and get a hotel its right their in your neighborhood.

Bigboy and Dan S are on the mark. Join local organization like restaurant groups, Chambers, Lions, Elks or anything that would help you at your home turf.

Then take your $250 and buy some Raider tickets or a new fly rod.
