Burner Not Working

ParadigmPW

I'm fairly new to the power wash field and want to learn how to trouble shoot my own equipment AND fix it, if possilbe. I have a pressure washer unit from out of Dallas with a 16hp Vanguard.

A couple days ago the burner stopped igniting; it just emits lazy, faint clouds of diesel fuel.

Any suggestions?

Check the wire going to the wing nut on the battery. They vibrate loose sometimes if this is from who I think it is.

I also have a burner that will not fire. I can hear the fan turn but nothing happens . Old beckett model "ADC" oil burner 12V, idea's?

Possible burner solutions

Try charging the battery first. Its the easy cheap fix.
You may need to but a small trickle charger to keep the battery in top shape in the future.

If that fails, check your transformer. Hook it up to 12 volts and run a srewdriver sideways across the springs -- does it spark? yes = fine no= replace.

Been running the same machine for 14 years never replaced a transformer yet!

Although, it is time for a new one.

*****************CAUTION*************
The smoke is evident you are tossing large amounts of raw unignited diesel in your burner tube. This equals WOOOMF(say this at the top of your lungs) if it lights with heavy amounts of smoke.

Be careful after charging the battery and trying to ignite the burner. All that raw diesel will ignite at once and flames will discharge. (keep body parts clear).

Let it run if this happens until it burns clear. As long as the flames are contained in the tube.
Keep a fire extinguisher handy!

and run a srewdriver sideways across the springs -

When doing this test make sure and not touch any metal of the screwdriver with your hands. The screwdriver should be long enough to reach from spring to spring,it should be layed on top of one spring and slowly moved into the other spring. If the transformer is still good it will fire before the screwdriver touches the other spring. If its good the spark will be strong and if its bad you will get a weak spark or none at all.
If its good and still not firing the burner you could have electro rod problems, they could be out of ajustment.

Sounds like you have some sound troubleshooting
advice given already.

If your transformer / ignitor has at least 12 volts
going in to it, but you can not see a bright blue
spark jump between the scredriver and the spring
{isee above psot by Larry[/i] you need a new
ignitor / transformer, we can ship you one today.

Here is some general troubleshooting information that
may be useful to you or others, :)

Appreciative!

Thanks or all the input, suggestions and ***CAUTION***.

I've opened up the transformer and done the srewdriver check for an arc and found NONE. I have an appointment to take it into Geyser in Riverside to have it replaced.

I'd want to get to know my machine better and even do some of the fixin myself: HydroTech or another Co., can you give me a quote on a transformer to match up against what I'm being charged tomorrow? Beckett 12V

Thanks again!
