most of the buildings i work on are less than 100 feet so doing single drops is not really an option also alot of the buildings have mortar and brick parapits and i don,t feel safe ancoring to them

I don't have too much knowledge of high-rise systems and the sort, but after watching that video, I would NEVER use that system. I didn't even see a full body harness, rope protectors, and several other things. The way the guy was bouncing around, trying to show the strength of the system, only showed his stupidity. If there's any high-rise guys out there, I'd be interested to see what you thought about the system...

Maybe something got lost on the video. I have seen him and the system..all his guys use it and it is very safe and effective. It is also way easier to carry around but I mentioned that already.

pepsi, I understand why you want what you do now. However, these guys use this system on 8-10 story buildings all the time. Takes five minutes to set up. I will keep my eyes open for what you seek.

Oh...they dont use body harn...ever try to self rescue from a body harn? They use sitters. barely legal yeah but far safer in the long run.

I spoke to a high-rise guy and he said the Versabeam worked great. I guess I just didn't expect to see the guy try to make himself fall, showing the strength of the system. I did expect to see some certifications, like ANSI or something, that's on other systems. The site did show a couple weight certifications, but it looked like the test were done in somebodys garage. In my opinion, the message I got from the video was that anybody could just buy the product, and start hanging off a building. For anybody considering doing high-rise, make sure you have the proper training and equipment.

P.S. If I seem overly concerned with this issue, please excuse me. A fellow WC'er I know fell years ago. He survived, but after seeing the scars on his hands where the rope cut into the bone, along with other serious injurys, I will always be overly concerned.

No, you do not seem OVERLY concerned at all! Safety should be a serious issue. Dan Price, the owner of the versabeam, has kept the website kinda on the down low. He made me come up to see and watch before we coud begin any consideration. Last year 13 people fell and were killed doing high rsie. He assumes that anyone looking at it is doing so from a point of reference only to see how his beam compares to a roof roller or any other beam out there. I know him rather well and even he will agree with what you have written.

thanks for looking out. I too have seen first hand what happens when people fall. The reason people fall is almost always human error. Things like two point chairs and and safety lines not installed properly, mixed with overconfidence can be disaterous. In over 15 years of high rise work myself I believe rope work is safest. Ever seen metal cable snap from the inside where no amount of inspection would have detected it, scary stuff. In nyc thats what you get though. Safety is the top priority with all my guys.

I understand rope work is illegal in NYC. I am told it is because of the union and not because the rope is not safe. I hear guys that do drop cleaning have to be very discreet like wokring weekends and such.

yes the union lobby is strong for the scaffolders. The law is up to 75 feet and single line decent is no good, block and tackle is a must, if you can't pull yourself back up then it is no good. This applies to all of ny state, yet we still do it because the demand is there. I do most of my work on long island anyway so we don't have any problems.
