Are you using Facebook to it's full potential?

I know that some of you are using Facebook to market to your clients but are you using it to the full potential?

As you know, it is easier to sell to customers that you already have and Facebook is a good place to do that. The key is however, not to overdo it. I have seen people that post photos of every job that they do and share it with their friends/likes. Doing this too often results in people thinking you are a spammer.

Here is how you can use Facebook without looking like a spammer.

1. First off you need some sort of landing page. I don't care where you get it from but you need to have something that makes people that have not liked your page click the like button. Landing directly on your wall will not do this.

2. After they click like, give them something. 10% off a house wash or free driveway cleaning with a house wash purchase etc.

3. Run Monthly specials for some small extra service available to only your Facebook fans. Tell them to share with their friends so that they can get the same deal when they like your page. They may not want the deal but they may know someone that does.

4. Run periodic contests..... dirty roof, mold gone wild, pennicilin paradise(mold), ugly deck, holiday decoration etc. Have people submit photos and have your fans vote for a winner. Prizes can be something as simple as a $25 Home Depot card.

5. When posting photos, Just post them in the albums. There is no need to share these, customers do not care about your other customers. One thing that you can do is tag the photo with the customer name so that it appears on their wall. It will also appear on the wall of their friends. When talking to a new potential customer ask them to go to your Facebook page to see photos of your work. Of course they will have to click LIKE because of your new landing page.

Now that they have clicked like (even if they are not a customer yet) they are in your marketing list.

The best thing of all is that Facebook marketing is FREE.

Did you run that 4th of July special? Think of the holidays and run specials for them. Memorial Day, 4th of July, Veterans Day (i.e. end of the season for some) Labor Day, Back to School, Weddings, Graduation Party etc. Surprise your wife for Mothers day. Give dad a break for Fathers day.

These are just a few dates that you can promote to your Facebook friends and followers. Run them for like 2 - 4 weeks. Ask them to share the special with their friends.

Just put it in your status and all that have liked the page will get it on their feed. About every other day add a reminder to remember your special etc. It will not show up on the landing page but you want them to like the page and then they will see it.

Pat, can you share more with me on how to set that thingamajig up?

Which thingamajig is that? Is it the one that hooks to the whatchamacallit to make the dohickey work?

If you are talking about the landing page, it is no longer available thru facebook and has to be added manually. They do have I frames but then you have to build and host everything somewhere else.

Pat, great advice as always. I'll tell you what, I am having a heck of time getting customers to fan the page. They send me raving testimonial letters, write testimonials on Angie's List, etc. I ask them to join the page to stay abreast of future contests and updates and my fan base stays where it is. Any suggestions?

Ken, how are you doing with Angies List? They did terrible for me here in Houston, still do. May get 1 or two calls a year off them.

Hey Doug, I don't do anything with them other than natural leads. I get maybe five people per year saying they found me there. Considering I can generate 2000+ leads per season, the percentage is miniscule.

I have a friend that is having good success by sending them to the fan page to look at photos of previous work before he arrives for the quote. He tells them "Hey look at our fan page on Facebook for more pictures of our previous work" or something like that. Of course they hit the landing page telling them to like the page and then they can look at the photos.

Seems to work for him.

Yea...you do pay per click or set a daily budget. FB gives you the ability to target cities with certain demographics. You upload your own ad/pic with description and etc. I will be running more in August. We are moving forward on a 6k direct mail test in Sept. with multiple mailing through Oct/Nov...we are testing different marketing mediums. On a different note, Yelp called again today to try to pursuade me to change my mind in advertising with them...LOL. I kindly asked the lady to reduce the monthly rates and I offered a very reasonable explanation of why it does not make sense for me to advertise with them. After I explained the "facts" to her...there was nothing she could say!
