Demographics needed for power washing

I have just recently found this forum while researching the possibility of starting a pressure washing business.

Does anyone have any demographic information on the pressure washing industry, especially for North Carolina? OR where can I find that information?

I'm trying to find out how many businesses there are, what the typical start-up costs might be, what the income levels for each year might be.

I know that a lot depends on what type of business I start and a thousand-and-one other factors but I am hoping to glean some info that I can use in a business plan I am trying to develop.

Does anyone have a business plan that they might share that I can use as a guide to developing mine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Lynnie G.

There are some tools out there, for pre-made business plans and price guides. I can email you a link. There are lots of very helpful, intelligent folks here who learned by trial and error and also by networking. You will find that no matter what, there is going to be a certain amount of work involved in planning and research as you begin.

As you read further, don't hesitate to ask question. There are many members on the board from NC and other areas. I wish I had the demographics you are looking for, but getting them is not as hard as you think. Drive around. Look at the homes, the value of the homes, and then you might want to talk to a realtor to see what the average income is of the homeowners in that area. I'm willing to bet they would know....one would learn this as one sells homes.

There will be a certain amount of disposable income, and that is what you are after. Bottom line, look for affluent neighborhoods, with two earner income. Market by zip code to start if you are on a tight budget.

pressure washing demographics

Thank you Beth for your response.

I know that finding the info can be quite challenging, I was hopeing that someone here had all ready come across the info and could point me to it or share it with me.

Perhaps my using the term demographics may have been incorrect. I was trying to find information that I could use in the development of my business plan. I am interested in information about what a typical pressure washing startup may be. The demographics on the actual clients would be researched at a later date and added to the business plan.

Questions like:
How many pressure washing services are there?
What size are the services? (one-man, two-man, ect.)
What is the yearly income from these services?
What is the amount invested in equipment?

Any other questions that may pertain to pressure washing services.

I'm not sure what may ultimately be useful in the business plan which is the reason I was asking if anyone had examples to share minus personal data of course.

With the vast information and mis-information available on the internet it can still be extremely difficult to mine the info needed.

Thanks again for your reply.

That does add a little clarity to your request. From what I gather here, your questions are really more about the industry than they are the client demographics. Although they are related you are correct that they need to be studied separately.

Questions like:
How many pressure washing services are there?
How many things can you think of to wash? Begin by looking at two specific markets and addres the opportunities within each. Commercial and residential are the two, and both have a variety of opportunities. Pick one or two and focus and learn, then expand as you go.
For example:
Residential: house washing, wood restoration, gutter cleaning
Commercial: exterior building washing, flatwork, janitorial, construction cleaning

What size are the services? (one-man, two-man, ect.) Yes, yes, yes... it depends on the job. Start out smaller, and grow as you learn.

What is the yearly income from these services?
Depends on the service and the season in your area (warm weather) etc.
What is the amount invested in equipment?
You can begin with inexpensive used equipment or go all out on a fancy rig and incur alot of expense up front. Depends on your capital.
