Did I ever say...?

What happened mike why do you hate decks?

Let me clarify better Carlos.

"I hate previously painted decks". I'm fine with stained decks but painted decks stink when it comes to labor intensity. Ive found even 2-3 hours of Sodium Hydroxide flakes still doesn't remove enough. To really get the old paint off seems you either need to sand or destroy the wood grain and I won't go there. I think I'll stick with building washes, fences (stained or unfinished) and flat surface cleaning. [wsmile]

When I started I cleaned decks, just because it was work. It didn't take to long to figure out, decks were not for me. I will be stick to house, buildings, and flat work.

I'm not the fondest of them either for one reason, the " p " word.....pickets. I really don't mind the rest but pickets really bug me. But they do fill the gap on days when there's nothing else to do. Sure wished I would have been born rich instead of so strikingly handsome....lol.

Good one Carlos....the good looks $$$ must be set up on a deferment plan or something, cause I have yet to see those particular ones!!!

For the last 8 years decks have been 80% of my gross $$. I definitely feel your pain. I've turning away new customers with under 1500 s/f of deck work for the last two months and changed advertising to heavily favor washing. I have never made more money or been more happy.

With that being said.. here is my profit draining job this year. Though the results were nice ;-) Some clown put polyurethane on the rails and we had to go solid white stain on the rails and stain the composite with Messmer's composite decking stain.

Looking good Ken!
Mike's right, find a good painter and kick the painted gigs aside.
IMO, decks are the biggest pain and the easiest residential sell.
