Hello I am fairly new to the business, i have been doing it part time for about a year, but i havent really advertised at all. I like the idea of door hangers but i am having trouble with what exactly to put on them without crowding it or not putting enough info on it. can someone please help me or tell me if there is somewhere i can pay to have them look professional. Thanks for any info or ideas.

I do not know about everybody else but I do not like coming home and seeing a door hanger hanging on my door.It means someone has been at my house without my knowledge and more then likely walked around it looking at it without my knowledge. If I'm not at home please be respectful and come back later,if you come back after hanging a hanger on my door I want do business with you.

I think a postcard though the mail would be better or have a local store put your flyers in the customers sacks.Have you thought about going to your local school and leaving a stack of flyers, kids love taking things home to show mommy and daddy.

I just don't like strangers around my house if I'm not at home, door hangers may work for some but than again they could cost you business. Some like throwing flyers in baggies with a rock inside,WOW,cheap way to T off a good customer. You will find out the added cost of doing this kind of trade isn't cheap, cutting corners can be handled in alot of different ways.A knock at my door will get you inside,a hanger will go in the trash at my house.I don't like seeing "Sorry I missed you" hanging on my door,I think a better way of marketing yourself would be better than hanging door hangers.

Just my thoughts.

We usually put a door a hanger on the 6 houses surrounding the one we are doing. I agree w Larry, postcards get much better return than door hangers.

Doug, this will be my first attempt with the door hangers. I will let you all know how it goes. Have you used any in the past?

I use hangers as impulse advertising. If I drive past a deck that needs some TLC, I'll hang one. I get about 40% callbacks using this method, maybe 30% closed sales. I've found that text along with the pictures works well. It helps personalize the pictures for the reader, and if you can get them reading, it keeps the flier in front of them for a bit longer.

Here's an example that I use for expos and flip books:

I'll try to dig up one of my door hangers for you guys. Like Doug said, it probably isn't a great choice for primary advertising, but as an addition, it's worked well for me.

Agreed, knocking on doors is awful. If you're not comfortable, just jot down the address and mail something to them.

I use one for our tub refinishing business and here's what we found works well.
From top to bottom, start with your company name.
Below that, a graphic of what you do.
Below that.. the statement "we just powerwashed the home at (and then a blank line for filling in the addess) and it looks beautiful".
On the bottom, have your phone number and possibly a code for a discount when calling for scheduling.
This will help you track them to see how effective they are.

We always to what we call the "street 10". We do two homes on each side of the home we worked in, and 6 across the street. If you have time, you can canvass the entire neighborhood. With powerwashing, you may want to do more homes since people can drive/walk by and see your work.

We have gone months without a single lead from our canvassing, and then all of a sudden, every call is from the door hangers.

Keep it simple, to the point, and they will work.
