Extend pump life & reduce hand fatigue

We started to use an open gun (no trigger) with dual lance wand with all rigs about 7 years ago. This reduces the constant on/off to the pump as well as the constant squeezing of the trigger on your hand.

New guns are cheaper also, but you can convert old guns very easily to open by taking out the trigger and removing the springs and things in the on/off mechanism, plugging the hole with screw and JB weld.

Walt,

Sounds dangerous, if your working with thousands psi's. How do you shut off the pressure to the gun? Use a ball valve shut off or somthing?

When we first initiated this we added some information on proper use of a (dump gun / open gun) to our safety program. Always open pressure when turning on/off the unit. In fact I feel it is safer than keeping the hose under pressure all the time. If the hose fails with this system you just releave pressure and it dumps water out with no whip action.
When not washing open wand pressure is about that of a garden hose.

Try it out and see for yourself ;)

We just started useing velcro straps to tie off the trigger gun. No fatigue from pulling on the trigger and a quick release on the straps if ya need one. I've also heard a tennis ball works the same way.

Best of Luck

i have been knowed to "mis-read" so how do you stop the flow from your gun when you turn on the p/wer and your gun is now open.........it seems to me that h20 will flow as soon as you turn on the machine.....

Yes, it flows as soon as you turn it on, like garden hose. Then when you crank it, it pressures up and heater comes on. Works for me, but hey to each his own ;)

One EASY method is to punch small hole in tennis ball
and feed a shoe string throgh the ball and tie string to gun.

When washing hold trigger open with tennis ball, if you fall or
drop gun the ball will become dislodged and water flow is stopped.

Years ago there was a device we sold that had a wrist strap attached
to a smal rubber wedge that held gun open, if you dropped gun the wedge
was pulled out by wrist strap.

Anyone have other methods?????????????

On flatwork we use open guns with ball valves. Other times when my guys want to use an open gun setup they'll pop in the tennis ball.
