free jobs

Try this for gaining new accounts:

Offer to do a total job FREE, yes FREE, not a demo but the whole 9 yards.

I spoke to the manager of a restaurant and he in turn spoke with his district manager who said they were happy with the company they are using.

I then sent him a thank you letter and offered a totally free job, good until April 30 of this year.

A couple weeks go by, then he calls and takes me up on my offer. A date was set, the job done, did the walk around with the manager and now I have that account.

I figure it takes as long to set up for a demo as a full job why not just offer to do the whole job see what happens.

This account is one small step towards getting many more of their locations.

Took my before and after pictures and left a set of each with the manager to pass up.

This by the way was my first totally free job and it paid off so yes I am going to do more of them.

Who else has does full free job vs. a demo with good results?

Jon that is great-make sure you let us know what happens when you come back for the next service. Will he or won't he, that is the question. That's good bait now comes the HOOK. What is your next plan if he says-"Well the company------". Ask yourself would he have taken the deal at 50% off-25%-10%.

I would not offer this with exhaust cleaning-some would look at this as free cleaning and still shop for the low price. I would tend to think, that the competition would turn it back on you and go to your customers and say did you get your free cleaning, no well talk with Jon he is doing it for some accounts. Giving things away can come back to you in ways you do not expect. I just say this so that you are cautioned.

Try this-go to the chain office and have that store as a trail or test store. If that proved positive-then tell them you would like to service five units at $$$ for 6 months. This way you gave the job away to the right person and all is the better. Maybe you did this but your post did not indicate a plan.

Let me expand a bit here so you get a broader picture.

First off the company they are using for other locations and this one is not doing such a great job, example this restaurant was converted from one of their other names to a new format which is paying off well for them. It was totally redone, inside and out and painted both too.

When I first went in to talk about being their pressure washing I did not know if they had someone or not since I had not heard of this name before. I was told that they did and but the manager wanted to a walk around so we did,I pointed out fresh paint and asked if it was done before or after the concrete was cleaned. He said after so I asked why did they not remove the paint, he looked at me and asked if it could be removed, I said sure and since I have my equipment with me would you like me to show you as a demo?

He could not allow that without calling corproate office for an ok. I let it go and followed up when I was in the area a couple days latter, that was when I was told his district manager said they are happy with the company they are using. Ok not a problem, keep my card in case you ever need my services is what I said and left.

That was when I decided to try Ron's approach and offer a free job. Did Ron ask anything from me in return, NO and I did not offer anything, I think I will buy him a drink when we meet, a drink of water since I am cheap!!!

The whole point is this, I gained an account from ONE free job. Will I offer other restaurants a free job, you bet I will and as long as I keep gaining more business I will do this, or till I have enough I am content.

I asked enough to know how and who to bill and how often they pay. If it turns out I got screwed so what, if as I suspect it turns into more business from other locations then great.

The main thing here is there are many ways to get business, free demo's, classy brouchers with pictures, discounts for large accounts, ( I don't offer low prices, I am not cheap nor is my work shoddy) a free job to one restaurant from a chain of ? 12, 20 80 I do not know but I do know the names of some of their other businesses now.

David, I can understand and agree with you about not offering this for hood cleaning, there is much more work and time in your line of work then mine, an hour and half for me compared to how many for you? I work alone, you have employee's, another costly reason I can do this.

I have never offered discounts either so that is not an option nor was it asked of me if I offer 1 or 2% for payment within 5 days.

Will it work on every account I offer it to? good quesetion but if I can win 1 out of 3 then it pays to do this.

Mike, we are in different fields, you do mostly residential while I do commercial/industrial so from your point I don't see you or anyone doing residential offering free jobs.

I am not saying this would work in all areas but if you don't try it how will you know? As I said before this was the first time I offered and I gained a monthly account out of it.

Knock it if you want but I would say before you knock it try it.

Jerome, (bling bling) as you noticed tried it and it worked for him too, go ahead and laugh but try it anyway then come back and tell us what happened.

One last thing, be sure the manager is there when you finish the job or go back as soon as he gets to work, do the walk around, point out what you did the other company did not do.

Go back a day or two later and I bet you get the account.

Hey, I need to ad my two cents worth now.

Lets look at the big picture. Jon spends a lot of time going back and forth to these accounts trying to land them. Maybe three or four or even six trips. This cost money too go back and forth a bunch of times through out the time period of a month or too. So now he runs across the right opportunity to cut those costs, he has a customer that doesn’t know he should be dissatisfied with his current pressure washing company. He gives away a couple of hours of pressure washing. He save four hours and all the gas it would have taken to make additional contacts with this customer. When you give a free bee that’s usually it. They either buy or you’re done. I can guarantee that if someone allows you to give it away they usually buy. You will have people believe it or not that wont even takes your offer. Let move on to the good stuff.

Lets talk about the path Jon is on right now. If Jon just land one of these account a week. Just one and I think he can do better. Remember these are not Jon’s prices and I will probably be low from what he is charging just because I don’t want to exaggerate in any way.

Jon turns free bee into and annual account of 155.00 per month. 1860.00 a year.

Remember he is going to land at least one more a week now until next year.

Let’s do the math.

One monthly maintenance account times 52 weeks at $155.00 = $8060 dollars in monthly revenue!!!!!!!!

$8060.00 each and ever month. That’s one a week.

Yearly that’s $$$$$$$$$$$96,720.00 next year Jon grosses $96,720.00. Remember I’m light he probably got more and the numbers are even higher. I land more than one a week, and I know Jon can do it too.

Here’s all Jon did was cut some expenses by giving the first one a way. Remember he only had to visit this guy a couple times when on others he had been going back several. He saves money and got the account on top of it.

Warning if you give something away they will expect to always pay. If you discount it they will always want the discount. Every time I guarantee it.

Good luck to everyone who tries it. it won’t work for everyone. You need to do good work, if you eat a bad steak do you go back for more???????
