hello im new to the kitchen exhaust cleaning business and greatly appreciate the knowledge ive been able to take from this board - thanks everybody!
I do have a few questions that im still unclear on though maybe someone can help. what is everyones take on bidding jobs when just starting out your unsure of how long it will take ? Taking into account the liability of this type of business do most people prefer to operate as a sole proprietor or choose to incorporate to remove personal liability ? Any preference on a soap im using hotsy miracle whizz and it works well any other suggestions ? And lastly if you were starting out in this business what would you wish someone had told you besides are you nuts ? Thanks in advance !

JBeckman, you might be getting in over your head. First off a rule of thumb for bids is $10-$20 per linear foot for hoods and $40 - $60 per fan. You can also charge for filters $5 to $8 per or not do them or include them as part of the job price. When lawsuits are flying the so-called corporate veil is transparent - the real advantage of S corp over sole proprietorship is the tax advantage. Ask your accountant, bookkeeper, lawyer. The best soap is something with a lot of sodium hydroxide. Whatever works for your job. Also bring scrapers to get the heavy grease. The best advice, if you are serious, get trained by someone who knows the ropes. You'll have to pay but it's worth it.

Ive seen and read alot of really good stuff about this business, Im considering doing this myself in the near future as soon as I get everything down on equip., chemicals quotes etc..( All info. deeply appreciated)..But when you do these jobs, and all that grease hits the floor is the floor job included in your price, do you charge them for that or do you leave it with them??? Im sure to within reason you rinse. But now the floor needs done.. Just curious!!
