Any insights would be appreciated. We are a newer startup unit that has done light commercial and residential jobs. Due to a personal contact we have a shot at getting a contract to clean 300+ industrial carts. Each cart is10x4x3 with page like folding shelves that hold piece work strips of material to be used inthe next process. The carts have general grime and caked on dirt...little if any oil or other hazardous substance. The hard part is the manual opening of each page on the cart to rinse and clean.

What is an approximate rate per cart? We will do a test wash soon to get an idea of time required.

Custy is concerned about rust? Are there rust inhibitors we can apply? Dont think its an issue but client does so looking for ways to dry carts.

Water shouldnt be an issue as the plant has onsite sewers for the runoff.

Ideas? Thoughts? Its a big project and contract if we win it. We want to price it right and not rip em off, but also not burn ourselves.

For pricing can you raise all the pages at once or do you have to raise each page one by one.

Tell Custy he can use a leave blower to dry them

You have to lift each seperately. We have considered the blower route... seems the best option so far.... just very labor intensive. Really in a bind as how the charge per cart?

Also its a union shop.. at 25.00 per hr or so there is no way they want one of their guys doing it. One guy wants to do the entire thing as his new 'job'. It will take him all day.

Let me get this straight. They do not want to pay $200.00 to an employee to do it but you will be bidding on this job at less than $200.00? I must have missed the part about being a big contract.

They have 300 of these carts. They dont own PW equipment, and if a union guy gets to clean one of thess it may take him hours to get a few done. Plus he/she will want ownership of the entire process, ie will want to clean all 300 by himself. The feeling is that we can do it faster and more efficiently. Im trying to judge time to clean one, ie how many in an hr so we can price accordingly... 20 a cart? 30? I have pics but not on a webpage.. cant seem to find how to post a jpg files here

How abot time and materials, at least to start. That would let them see that you are more efficient than a union worker, and that you can also doa better job. What's more is that you will be able to figure out the most efficient method on their nickel, not yours. After a while you might be able to go to a per cart rate.
