RCF Phone Numbers

For those advertising out of their immediate area, using RCF (remote call forwarding) phone numbers can drastically increase the effectiveness of your ads.

I advertise in five differnt yellow pages, which cover a pretty broad area. I have four different phone numbers. The three RCF numbers all ring into my main line.

I feel this is better then a 800 number, because, when you are talking about residential, people like to call someone that they feel is local. In my ad, it lists a phone number that is local to them, and says I am from that town. When they call, they have no idea I am 15 miles away.

I pay about $20 per month for each line, and any long distance charges (toll) that apply. I feel it's worth it because you get more calls.

Works for me....

Mike,
I haven't advertised outside my area yet, but was wondering about how much a local number for those areas would cost. I plan to advertise in 2 larger cities this year that are more than 30 miles away. I live about 15 miles deep in the sticks. Most of my jobs average 25 miles one way. Thanks for posting this topic, it has helped me.

Mike,

I can personally attest that you are 100% right. I have & 800 number and have heard people tell me that they are going with a guy closer and at times I was actually closer than the guy they used.

Something to think about: use both 800 numbers are cheap 6.00 a month. The benefit of having a local number is great. But what about those people you cant supply a local number. Will they call long distance? I wont call a cell phone that charges me. I believe if I’m calling someone to do business I want it to be on his or her dime.

I do agree that local numbers are best. Remember that most phone books do travel outside caller areas. I guess if you don’t travel then it wouldn’t matter. My trucks average 85 miles of driving a night sometimes more.
