RV Antifreeze?

Has anyone used the RV antifreeze for winterizing their machines, rather than regular automotize antifreeze? I can't see where this would be a problem, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper. Thanks in advance for your input.

i use the plumbing Anti-freeze. lower in cost and works great. I pressure wash most of the winter and before shutting down machine ....suck it full of the anti-freeze and good till the next night.
You can also save the antifreeze and recycle most it.

I always use the pink rv antifreeze. I have a small piece of garden hose with a funnel attached to the end that I fill up with a/f, then start the washer until the a/f squirts out of the pump discharge. Never had a problem in twelve years, and it gets pretty darned cold here in Michigan.

On my machine with a float tank, I just fill it with a/f and run the machine till it squirts out the pump discharge.

You can even install a schraeder valve and use a compressor to blow out the majority of water, then run the a/f thru after that.

Thanks for the input guys. That's the route I'm gonna' take this year. Lot cheaper. I do like the idea of blowing out the water first, and have a fitting for that anyway. Thanks again.

free anti-freeze

I go to automotive shops and ask for their waste antifreeze (drained from rads they repair). They are happy to give it to me because they must pay someone to dispose of it (Canadian law, not sure about the States). Won't find a better price than that!
P.S. you can filter it if you like but i never have and have had no problems

I use RV antifreeze too. Blow out the water in your supply lines or your hose wheels will crack. Add a couple of gallons of windshield wiper fluid to your water holding tanks.

2 more cents

I use boat/rv. because it is non toxic to the enviroment so when I fire back up there is no harm in what spits back out. Auto antifreeze is toxic and should be reclaimed when you dewinterize your machine. also someone may correct me but I think there may be issues with used auto antifreeze becoming breacking down to become corrosive ( the reason to flush your radiator periodically) so if its harmfull to your cooling system think about your pump internals.
one other thing when winterizing my pump i cycle the unloader to flush the bypass side.
good luck

I've used winter windshield washer fluid for years and never a problem.Got it rigged up in a tank and valved into suction to pump.At day end suck it through the system and cycle the unloader to make sure bypass is done too and the next day discharge out the hose reel back into tank.Good to -40 until gets too diluted after 20 to 30 uses. $2.50 a gallon in Alberta and takes me 5 gallons to do suctions, pump, unloauder 880,000 btu boiler and 250 of 3/8 whitewater high pressure hose.
