Text Message Advertising

Ant, thanks for posting this, I actually have a customer that is trying to get me to sign up with a texting company he is a rep for. I can give you the name if you want. They want $150 to sign up (activation fee), then $99 bucks a month after that. Are these charges the norm? Basically you get a "keyword" and a sticker that goes on your trailer. the sticker says. Text (your keyword here, like hood cleaner) to 11111 ( or whatever number you get) and then you start building a list of phone numbers. Probably more to it than that but thats the basics.

Any more input on the rates that are out there or good companies would be appreciated.

Maybe I'm (old) school, but text messages annoy me. I prefer to dial your phone number and talk to my friends, customers and potential customers.

I feel pretty much the same JIm. Any text advertising I get, I rarely even read the ad, and just hit reply and enter STOP. Very annoying to me. I can also see this getting very diluted and becoming all Junk much like email has become. the more people get inundated with them the more they will ignore them. HAving said all that, if I can determine it will increase my business, hec, I may try it.

I was never big on texting either until I started doing it. Now, I'm a swyping (with Android) fool.

The efficiency is unbeatable guys. You can't get on the phone to 100 people at once to try and book a job within an hour. I do agree with you guys though that it will eventually become dilluted and non effective, but until then, ride the wave.

Also.. just something to consider... Just because you may not like it, or do it, doesn't mean your customers don't. It's a business decision in my opinion and just makes sense at this point in time to hop on the front of the bandwagon and ride it til the wheels fall off.

I agree ANT. I do like texting personal wise, I just hate receiving those adv ones. However, if it's gonna increase my business, then I'm all for it. You got to reach the masses to win a few. Are there any of these text companies you would recommend. I am always FOR what my customers will respond too, whether I like it or not.

I hate texting but it really is more efficent and on the plus side you can avoid hour long conversations about if its going to be 77 or 78 degrees today. We all have thoes customers they just love us

I have mixed emotions about this. Texting is here...most def...and there are many uses for it. I don't have a problem doing it as you all know I texted a quote to a client a couple weeks ago and felt "odd" about doing it verses calling up the customer and speaking with them directly.

I see the benefit in texting ads/pressure wash incentives to "plant the seed".

Good thread

I have quotes from Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Google all saying that mobile ads are the way to go.. I can't find them now, I'll keep looking.
