What a call

Received a call yesterday asking about washing trucks and trailers... They have 80 units and like to wash them bi-weekly... This was sounding real great at this point until they pointed out the guild lines... Asked me about my rig, which is 4000 psi. 6 gal. a min. Have it set up to run two operators at the same time... Well they wanted me to use there rig and just pay me labor... When I first started out with my rig was getting #35.00 a truck for a big company, when telling them this information they about had a cowwwww... They just wanted to pay {hold on guys} $6.00 an our...When told this I had that cow...Talk a little longer and before hanging up they went up too $7.00 an hour... Well I set up an appointment with them because some how would like to get this account, but not doing it FREE... Had any one ever run across this before and what did you do regarding this matter... I fill like my labor is more than that for sure... Any one have a suggestion on how we can convene this company on using my equipment or a fair price on labor... I fill like if I can't make 20-25 an hour I'll just let it go,or charge by the unit, which I am not sure of as yet... Any comments on this topic will be highly taker...

Thanks

HAVE A NICE DAY

Robert,
I personally would charge per unit $25 for single axle day cabs, $30 for OTR tractors, $35 for stand stand up cabovers (condo's), $25 for van trls and $20 for flat beds.
If and I mean if you were to charge by the hour charge what you are worth, if you think that thats all your worth then charge $7 an hour.Go to the meeting, be firm but fair, remember your a professional and this is how you make your living.
just my opinion,
Richard

No way I would do the hourly thing. I would go to meeting and tell them my terms, if they can't agree, you don't need that account. There are plenty of trucks out there to wash and no way would I do it for "free". Leave that to the weekenders!

Ok now look. One of two things is going on here. Either they are complete idiots or they are bold faced cheapsakes looking for a fool.

I could care less if it is 80 trucks or 800 working for nothing is still working for nothing.

Ask them why they dont just go buy a $300 piece of crap cleaner and higher someone at min wage? I will tell you because they can't keep people in this market so they are going to try and stick it to you. Try it but do not give it away.

What they are looking for is an EMPLOYEE....not a Contract Cleaner. Go to the meeting for sure, a free opportunity to meet with them face to face and sell yourself. When they finally come to their senses and realize that they cant get something for nothing, perhaps you will be on the top of their list of people to call.

Good luck

Hello to all...
Just a up day on my meeting washing for this trucking company... To make a long story short I turn down there offer.... They wouldn't go any higher than 7 bucks an hour... Try to explain the pro and cons but after about ten min. with them I new they had there set ways....I have higher standards than that and not about to lower them...Thanks to all that comment, and gald I was in the ball field on price...

Have a nice weekend...

Good for you Robert,

You did the right thing. They will find a company or person to do it for that, and let them. They will be looking again and again. When they get tired of that circle they will hire a real company to handle it.

These type of companies are the first to complain about anything they can think of. Your better off, It will cost you more to do it,than it would if you didn't

Robert,
There is an old saying that comes to mind, "It is better to be plain broke, than tired and broke." I still would have refered them to my competition....HeHeHe. Just think if you had taken their offer and signed an agreement, then you would have gotten a real call, from a lot better company.
