What Happened To The Power ?

While I was in IL. I had on a few occasions knocked out a few outlets getting them too wet on the outside of the home while power washing. In IL. The to restore the power, the outside outlets have a reset button on them to fix the problem. They call these outlets GFI outlets. (Hope I said that right for any electricians out there) They trip when they get to wet.

Most of the time you will not know until the customer calls. In Texas I have done this twice already. I told the customer to look outside for the reset botton. They said that there was not one out there. So I asked my friend Craig Knight from Kingwood, TX. and he knew right away. Check the bath rooms, usually the master or a small guest bath room near the sink.

The bottom line, it's either in the house on an outlet, switch in main box or outside some place. I try to assist the customer by phone at first. If not you will have to stop by.

This has happen twice in many years in IL. and twice in just a few months in TX.

Good Luck

When I built my house, literally, I installed GFCI breakers in my main panel for the receptacles in the kitchen and bath. For the outside, I used the receptacles with the built in resets just for that purpose of an outside contractor who trips one for one reason or the other. I also used these in my boathouse as we all know water and electricity don't mix. When I installed the 2 electric lifts, they came with built in GFCI's.
If you guy's don't already have one, you should invest in one of those GFCI pigtails. They are 1 foot section on cord which connects between an unprotected outlet and an extension cord. I leave one in my van in case I run any lights, powertools, etc., off my equipments generator.
