What is it with Behr?

I am doing the 2nd deck in a month that was treated with Behr clear/natural only last summer.
The first deck turned dark brown and glazed over with a shine before "peeling" off...very odd I thought...that was not so bad cleaning.
This other one the Behr turned dark brown and is being the biggest pain to remove of anything I have ever seen...

Both of these were done by 2 different companies...so the only common thread is the sealer...

I rarely use Behr, only by request, but if this is a common problem, I'm going to suggest that we just do not use it at all.
I don't want any of our customers having this prob next year and thinking it was us...

Oh well...just curious...

I would never use it. I have heard of and seen these problems first-hand. I believe it is solely the sealer's fault. I have heard that at one time, I don't know if it still applies, they used alot of fillers in their product (useless ingredients). Regardless, I'd never seal a deck with it.

I can tell you that Behr products are terrible. I used the natural color on my 12x36 deck last year before finding this board. I looked at all the great looking brochures at Home Depot and the price was right, 5-6 gallons was only around $50-60.00. I am getting ready to attempt to strip this CRAP off. It looks terrible, especially on the walking surfaces mostly exposed by the sun/weather. I don't have any peeling, just really bad faded and turning grey. I just finished a PTW deck of about 450 sq feet with Superdeck Cedar. It looks great now, I just hope it holds up. Any advice about Superdeck Products? I also just completed the manual to become "Wolman Certified" I want to try some of their products. The local paint store is waiting on a shipment. I am new to doing decks, I usually just do houses. I am trying to find the cheapest way to purchase oxalic acid and sodium hydroxide. They have these products at home depot. I think the stripper is called "Deck Fix-it" and the oxalic acid is called "Brightener?" anyway I know the active ingredients as it's listed on the label. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Great Board. I am looking to be just doing "decks" as there is no one in my area that advertises deck restoration. As far as houses, many of them here in N. GA are almost impossible to reach because of the landscape. 30-40 feet on a hill. How do ya reach that?

BEHR is crap...bottom line. I think it is worse than Thompsons. I love when I come across a deck that has been treated with Behr that means I can charge more for stripping!

Just landed a job stripping behr off 334 feet of fence. It is only three years old, and is almost totally black! More proof!

Behr currently has a class action law suit being brought upon them in the state of Washington on four of their products. Super Liquid Rawhide product # 12 & 13 as well as the Natural Seal Plus product # 80 & 92.

The courts have found Behr negligant in the production of the products and ruled in the favor of the homeowners who filed the claim. If I remember right they forgot to add in the mildacide and with behr being linseed oil based thats a feast for mold and mildew.

Your best bet (financially speaking) is to find out what products were applied, when they were applied, and when they were purchased. I would also inform the customers of the option to call Behr for restitution of the project costs. If they dont have the receipts or the cans I don't know that they will do anything. There is alot more to this and hopefully for our sake the suit starts moving into all 50 states. We have found a few similar projects that the product had only lasted 6 months to a year on and it is not easily removed.

FYI...
