Brite-Side Powerwashing

Hey Briteside,

Your using a turbo to clean houses? If you give me a call I'd be happy to tell you a lot of reasons NOT to do this and tell you how you can clean houses at least twice as fast with less work.

The Turbo is doing all the work and damage for you, you probably don't even need chemicals. Give me a call and let me make your life easier and much more profitable.

I reccomend using an x jet or at the very least a downstream chemical injector for washing houses. Give me a call sometime and I'll explain depending on the equipment you have which is better.

Eric,
what gpm is your washer rated at? A turbo nozzle spins w/ 0 degrees cleaning power, when it spins the solid line of water coming out of the nozzle spins so fast that it creates a complete circle of cleaning area. If you are not supplying the nozzle w/ enough water, or you are moving to fast you will notice circle patterns on what you're cleaning... whatever you do dont use these nozzles on wood or soft surfaces.. if you do it eats them right up.... somthing you might want to try... check and make sure you're using 3/4" garden hose to supply your washer instead of 5/8".. Also dont use more than 100 feet of water hose to supply your washer.. The longer the hose and the smaller the diameter obviously means more resistance, & less water to your machine.. This can starve your pump and make you be running at less than max compacity...

I myself dont use a tank, almost every job i've came to has a water supply that i can use. In my area the cost of buying a tank, skid mounted washer, trailor, and another truck w/ a beefed up engine to pull the thing... the cost outweighs the benifits at this point... i could see the benifits of having it to do jobs in inner city where there is little access to water hookups other than hydrants...

Using a turbo nozzle on house washes is a BIG NO NO. No offense to Jonathan, but he is giving you some VERY BAD advice on how to wash home exteriors. Chemicals are a pressure washers best friend. They allow you to achieve the best quailty results with the least amount of muscule. In general, if you have to use anymore than 1000 psi to wash a house, you're not using the right chems, period. I rarely have to use more than 500 psi to rinse anything I wash, with the exception of cleaning concrete. The idea is to use high gpm with a moderate amount of pressure, let the chems do the work and make life easier for yourself.

As for chlorine being dangerous, it's only as dangerous as the idiot who's using it. If you use the right dillutions, and keep the vegitation and anything else that can be affected well rinsed, before, during, and after cleaning each section you will not have any problems. I buy my chlorine from a local Pinch-a-Penny for $1.10 a gallon, if I had to pay $13.50 a gallon for a supposed mildew cleaner that doesn't even work nearly as well as chlorine, I would probably go out of business.

Jonathan,
I highly suggest you do some searching on this bbs and some of the others to research better, faster, more cost effective ways to clean. I don't mean this as an insult your just working a lot harder, and probably with inferior results than you need too.

Just to through some questions out for you:

Why would you think that sodium hypochlorite is such a bad chem to use?
What is the active ingrediant in the mildew busters you use, and do you have a copy of the msds?
What chems do you use to clean the black streaks off of gutters?
How long does it generally take you to clean an average 2,000 sq ft house?

Eric,

An x-jet is a very effecient chemical application tool. Its a nozzle that can pull chems up to as much as a 1:1 ratio. It can shoot chems and rinse up to 30 or 40 ft. depending on your machine. It's almost a must have for many reasons.

Good chems and a garden hose will clean a house....... I am not an x-jet fan because of the method I use, there is no need for one..... However I tend to agree with the "NO TURBO NOZZLE" on a house...... Unless ofcourse you are looking for exterior changes....

CCPC,
hey thanks for your input. if you know a better tequnique please enlighten me.

This is what I'm currently using:
3500 psi 4.5gpm washer

On an average style vinyl home 2-story 2200 square feet it takes me around 2-3 hours from arrival untill I leave. The reason i dont use bleach is because at least 5 of my customers have said in the past that they dont want any bleach used due to teh fact the previous guy that washed their house used bleach and they said it made their siding dull as well as killing $800 worth of plants around their house. I do use the mildew buster i have listed on a previous post, i like the results it gives me for the amount of chemicals i apply. I have applied doses of bleach to certain areas of siding trying to get tough stains out and from my experiance the mildew buster works better for me. About removing the black streaks from gutters, i use mildew buster for that... Go here to see the gallery Photos

From my perspective your approach is using higher amounts of chemicals (bleach) to soak the siding with and come back w/ low pressure 5-8 hundred and the (mildew/stains) just comes right off. How do you apply these chemicals so thick? w/ an x-jet? My only problem w/ that is putting that much chemicals on a house i dont care how much you spray the plants, switch over to wash the house and all those chemicals coming back down on the plants and grass... i mean if you're doing it and it works for you let me know...
