burner problem

Hi all,
does any one know what purpose the spring loaded part that is central in the picture does. The part is a PA #VS 220. I am assuming it is an unloader, does anyone have any ideas on what it is or does?

I noticed some leakage from both my boilers today as soon as I put it under pressure (3000 psi) is starts to bypass some water out underneath it is rated to 3750 psi so pressure shouldn't be a problem.

I am assuming it is an unloader that has worn out, as I run an open gun and have removed the unloader after the pump I am assuming this also has no purpose. So rather than replace it I thought I would just remove it out of the equation. I don't have alot of experince with the burners/ boilers so I thought I would throw this out to you, and see what you guys think?????????

Looks like a pressure relieve valve
The gray wire is a reed switch or high limit switch

I dont think you can get rid of either one..............

The brass piece with the hex head appears to be a pop off valve
/ pressure relief valve as Dan stated, hooked to a flow switch.

I would replace it, not eliminate it, I also suggest you replace
the unloader for safety reasons.
