Hi guys !
I ordered some dsr-50 ,but looks like it wont make it here on time,so i need a back up plan.I called about Wolmans stripper and lady said i shouldnt dilute it,or actually she read the can label over the phone and it said no dilution necessary, she didnt know anything else.I remember JR telling me that 1:3 dilution will take off Thomsons. Are you sure JR i can do that??With water??I need to know cause they have 1.3 gal cans for $17 ,so if i dilute a can, that would make me 3.9 gal of stripper, if i cant i would have to buy a lot more than 4 cans.
I have to neutralize it afterwards, right??
Thanks a lot for your help,
Jonhy

Depending on the stain & condition, you can. On most strip jobs you can put a gallon of it into a 5 gallon jug or bucket. Add water, that is 4 to 1. Worked for me that way many times.

Make one 5 gallon bucket first. Try it on the deck. If it is to weak. Make another one with 1.5 gallons to 3.5 water. Then get a third bucket and mix them all.

Don't worry about buying to much stripper. Better to have to much. Take back what you don't use.

I dilute 1 to 1 all the time. With Thompsons water seal or CWF you can remove it with the Wolman rejuvinater. I feel that full strength stripper is almost to much of a good thing if the existing sealer is in poor shape. Good luck! Have a good one!

Who you gonna believe? Some lady who has never cleaned a deck in her life? Just kidding!
Yes you can dilute it as much as you want.3:1 is the norm for thompsons, but buy some extra just in case, you can always use it on the next deck.I used over 40 cases of Deckstrip last year and I'm pretty sure I didn't use it straight one time!
And yes, although Wolman claims you just have to rinse deckstrip, you should neutralize it.I use citric acid through the downstream, but you can use a jug of oxalic acid from home depot(Zep deck cleaner,$6)Takes 2 minutes to go on wait 15-20 minutes rinse off,I get the feeling you think neutralizing is this big, time consuming step...it is not and you have to do it,if you want to give your customers the right job, without risk of a coating failure.

Thanks guys for your input,i believe you JR,just wanted to make sure that we were talking about same product and there is not something else out there that i might mix it up with.Always like to ask,Are you sure, thats my favorite question.
I dont have downstream injector yet,and dont want to run oxalic trough my pump i guess. Can i apply it with a pump up?For instance if i buy Zep deck claner, how much can i dilute it,if at all, probably would take lots of those $6 jugs for 400 sq ft deck and 150 ft long fence.
Thanks,Johny

You can put it through a pump up or ,Buy one one of those ORTHO garden sprayers($8)put it on the 8 oz setting and spray it through the end of a garden hose you do not need a lot to neutralize. It is made to go through the downstream at 20:1!If you rinse the deck good first then spray the deck cleaner on,you will be fine.

JR,
Just to make sure i understand you right,if i buy 1 jug of zep deck cleaner,i can dilute it 1:20,put in in a pump up to neutralize?I am right. So it basically makes 20 gal of nutralizer?Or am i missing here. Then why ever buy oxalic,20 gal would be plenty for every job.Does this work just with Wolmans or any stripper??
Sorry man for all the questions, you have helped me out so much.If you lived closer i would pay you to watch you work.

OK,Here goes. The stuff I am referring to is ZEP Concentrate made to go through a downstream injector. It says it will make 20:1 AND IT CAN.The dilution rate is not that important for neutralizing...simply rinse the deck good first! If you want to put it through a pump up that is up to you but if you go to home depot and ask the guy there, where the ORTHO HOSE END SPRAYER IS..he will direct you to a little jug that connects to the end of your garden hose.Simply fill it up,and put the setting on 8 ozs per gallon. That will give you a 15:1 ratio which is probably enough to clean the deck in other circumstances! You can cover a 400 sq ft deck in 2 minutes literally!wait 15 minutes and rinse it off.If you do not want to buy a hose end sprayer and feel like walking back and forth with a pump up,put about a fifth of concentrate in the pump up and the rest water and spray away. And yes it is a concentrate that can be used all the time. The trick is to do what is best for you...use this method but keep searching for other stuff that will work,it is everywhere.

Here is where we are probably not connecting ...After a while, time is way more important than a $6 jug of oxalic acid.Once you have the cash to just buy as you need you will come to appreciate what I am talking about.I use a jug through my downstream and simply spray it liberally on the deck.I waste a good amount but I don't have time to worry...my time is worth way more than a jug of acid. The time wasted trying to put acid through a pump up to savor every drop is costing you a lot more in the long run.I did two years with a pump up before I realized I was losing money...ALOT!Just go for it!
In two years you will be answering the same questions to a new guy.

Being worried about your first job is better than thinking it is a piece of cake. You will be laughing though.I also used the Ortho garden hose end sprayer to apply chemicals to house too.
