Gear reducer removal

Does anyone have any tips on removing an Interpump RS151 gear reducer from a Honda keyway??? I've somehow managed to fracture the housing on the gear box and I have to remove it to either replace it or get it rewelded? I undid all the bolts today and used the gentle persuader( Rubber hammer) to try to tap it off. It only seemed to move 1/2 an inch before it wouldn't move anywhere, I then sprayed some WD-40 in it this arvo and thought I'll let it soak overnight to penetrate. Any ideas on this????????????????????????????????????????

I've never removed a gear reducer but hear tell they can be heck to get off, sounds as tho either a set screw or the keyway is holding it.

Look back on some old post it has been talked about before,I'll help you look after awhile.

Chirobob, Which side is stuck? You might have to split the case to find a set screw. Rotate the gear slowly and there should be an allen head set screw in there some where. But if I remember correctly there should be only one set screw, I think it is on the pump side. Hope you get it fixed and back to washing.

Hopefullt the engine shaft keyway and key are not galled and welded
to the gearbox gear. You may need to try a torch to heat up the gear.

Once again be sure there are no set screws still in place and try heating
the gear as a last resort, you will most likely need to replace the engine
crankshaft oil seal if it gets too hot from the torch.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your input guys, the WD-40 worked. But I had to tap it back on then she slide off like a glove ( Thanks to Big Petes' idea from the Cleaner Network). The keyway was semi shot, and the shaft may need to be repaired although I may be able to get away with a new key. I looked at the housing nuts and none of them had loctite on them let alone a washer to hold it in place. I regularly check the nuts obvously they came loose somehow. The unit has done 400 hrs so I can't complain. $500 on repairs for that amount of work I can cop sweet.
The manufacturer over here that puts these together has a history of geardrive problems, I was told I was lucky to get a year out of it.
Luckily I have spare 4.5 GPM that I can lean back on, that I cut my teeth on - I knew there was a reason that it's been taking up space!
Thanks again.

Glad you were able to get it off the shaft, be sure to clean the threads with carb cleaner or something similar before using loctite on the threads.

This is one of the reasons I am in favor of belt driven units.

Before putting it back together, you may want to clean up the shaft with emory cloth to make it nice and smooth. You could also apply a littl anti-sieze compound to hopefully make it easier to separate the next time you have to take it apart.

Good luck!

It may be a lil late to suggest, but wally world has this stuff called PB or Parts Blaster... it will flat out blow the heck outta WD-40. Use it all the time here on the farm.
