Hello Gents, I have an issue I was hoping some vet may solve.

What can I do to my system to keep me from having to return to the Pwer every time to change wands when I am washing alone?

I do a large volume of residentials and having to constantly go back and forth and cut the machine off in order to change from my 6' to my extension is getting quite old and tiresome.

I thought about adding a remote car starter to alieaviate this issue.

Whats you guys thinking.

Buy a ball valve. You can turn the water off before the gun and leave the machine running in by-pass(assuming you are using a tank and have your unloader bypassed back to the tank)I'll try to post a pic later of the ball valve we use attached to the gun.

If you want this for doing housewashing it may not work as well but, All my guns have a high pressure swivel and a male qd connect so I can change out wands just be letting go of my gun trigger. Then I can change out wands to a shorter one or a bent one for doing rails. If this is for house washing your best bet would be the valve as suggested before.

I run my guns this way so I can always pop off my wand and use the gun to rinse when doing houses. With my chemicals and an xjet or foamer I dont need to use a house wand anymore. I think we used it once last month.

I do the same thing that Scott mentioned...A high pressure ball valve between the hose and the gun...Shut it off, swap wands and turn it on again. Saves a LOT of time, especially when using a surface cleaner.

Ball Valve setup

Excuse me gent if I seem a little confused here. Your suggestions are to place a ball valve between the hose and the gun? Right.

1. The ball valve to me is not the only piece of equipment needed.I would also need to add a plug, ball valve, qc coupler right?.

I could get a better understanding if some one could post a pic.

2. Henry's way may be more logical for a newbie. Just change out different size wands in the outlet side of the gun.

Please post any pic available.

Ball valve

The qc on the outlet side of teh gun works great,we do the same thing.
However.the ball valve will allow you to change between gun and surface cleaner,as well as,gun/wand combo.

How many different guns are you using?

This is a pic of the ball valve we use. It's inline before the gun.If you buy one it should come ready to use.I think we paid $30 for this one from Steven Rowlett.

Are you guys having problem with the QCs freezing up?

Mine work great and then about a month or less later, they freeze up or are near impossible to remove.

Would stainless steel QCs be better? I have been using brass QCs.

Here's my open gun with a QC at the end to change wands as well all my lances have QCs for changing nozzles.

Wow, that looks like something you would see in a prison or Africa... Something made up to take on a tank, LOL!!

I use stainless, and don't have a problem with them freezing up. Mine last quite a while...can't remember the last time I changed one out.

Chirobob that looks like the setup we used with the steam cleaner for cleaning the bildges in the engine rooms onboard ship. User friendly but heavy to use all day. LOL

Weight

chirob,

That thing must weigh a ton. We just place the ball valve between the hose and gun without quick connects. Either way either the gun will be heavier or the hose will. I prefer the hose.

Do not and I repeat, do not pick up a ball valve at your local hardware. They will not SUSTAIN THE PRESSURE. If you are not spending at least $20.00 on a ball valve, you are buying something that will not work.

The qd's may be locking up because of the male end insert. With constant twisting they develop a ridge on them that jams them up. Griding the ridge away on concrete works if your on the job or just replace them. I try to remember to spray my qd's with wd40 as often as I can and that will extend the life of them also.

I keep a file on the trailer for filing the ridges down on the plugs. Hadn't thought of spraying them with WD40. I'll try that.

the wd40 will keep them lubed so they work easier and it will also give some protection from the chemicals that get on them.

Redneck pinchers are faster and easier to use, just clamp around the burred plug and give it a couple of twists.

When drilling a hole or cutting thick metal if you add oil it will cut faster and easier besides the oil or grease want last nomore then a few minutes if useing hotwater.A good on brushing will make them work like new and you want get oil on the o-ring.

Its been a long time but I've had them to lockup but its been years, gone to 3/8's stainless steel QC and plugs years ago b/c I had trouble with the 1/4 locking up more than they should.

Robert the answer is NO, have both and find no difference so buy the ones that cost less.

Ball valves are great but I stopped using them, might even have a new one around someplace.

As for running in by-pass I would recommend that to all and it is easy to set up.

Anything other info I charge for!

I have read that WD-40 is not "healthy" for O-rings.....I am certainly not expert on the subject....maybe someone else could comment....I use Silicone myself.....
