I just did a gazebo today myself...............here it is, sealed with Ready Seal Natural Cedar. I really want to go back and get a picture of it in two weeks when it shows its true color.

Ron,

You are really close, 3475.00.

I am waiting for the damn rain to stop so I can do the cedar
shingles. I am going to do the roof with 1 part natural cedar, 1 part light brown and 1 part Gold. Did a test shingle and will really contrast nicely with the rest of the deck/gazebo.

REEDSTERSTL what did you use as far as equipment, to get up there.
Just a ladder? If so, what unloader do you use on your unit?
Also it looked like newer construction[ never sealed]
if i had a failed finnish on it what would have been your price?
I like the 2 tone thing gives it a classy look [ i did a shed in 2 tone]

It was fairly new construction. It was completed after the temps had turned on me. When I started it, I had to wash and brighten. It had already turned grey.

Chems used, EFC-38 cleaner 1/2 strength, Sunbrite brightner, and of course ReadySeal.

All the chems were applied with a pump up sprayer. The readyseal was applied with sponge rollers with the exception of the ceiling of the gazebo, used a pump up(and took a bath). I spent a lot of time on ladders and also used the BIG extension rods for the roller to really reach up there.

I couldn't even begin to estimate how long it would have taken if I had to strip it first. This entire job took about 5 full days to really get all 2 to 3 coats on. All verticals got 2 coats and the horizontals got 3 coats, deck floor, got 4. I would have loved to spray the entire thing, but wind here is all the time this time of year.

Decks are real slow this year. Alot of start up businesses and the start ups are really cutting the price. Lost a few to the .90 sf guys. But I'm sure the customer got what they paid for. Should here from those next year.

Hi Reed,

From the work you have shown on this board, you are a true professional, and I for one am very impressed. Excellent project. I have a question for you, when you say the .90 sq. footers, does that mean for just a clean and seal, or are they charging that for a complete restoration?

(Because for a clean and seal, that doesn't seem like too way out of line)

Thanks, and keep up the excellent work, you should be proud!

Chris,

That is a quote price the homeowner told me for a "complete" strip/neutralize and seal. I was dumbfounded at the price myself. I guess if someone wants to save money, then they will go with the .90.

Oh well, that's the free enterprise system.

ps, someone take this rain away.

Ron,

To answer your question, I cleaned my gazebo from a ladder.......extension ladder from the grass and a step ladder for the sides facing the deck.

I use a flow actuated unloader............

Reed,

That job looks great. I was wondering what the gold color looked like. I use the light brown a lot on cedar, but it comes out much darker. The gold will give the customer a lighter option.

By the way, I am a firefighter in your area. I actually live in Illinois, so my Powerwash business is there on my days off from the Fire District.

It does seem as though business is slower than last year. It is probably from the tremendous amount of rain we have had this month. No one has been thinking about outdoor activities. Hopefully Now that the weather has broke, things will start to pick up.

Again, great job. Keep up the excellent work!

Dave,

My hat is tipped to you for being a firefighter. I am retired military. I share in your loss of "buds" on 9-11.

Mike and I both thank you for the kind words. The light brown on cedar (ReadySeal) will lighten up. It may go down dark but in a few short weeks you will get the effect you are looking for.

Got another job from hell. LOTS and LOTS of lattice work. will post a pic when done.
