In Hot Water

I am trying to make a decision. I am looking to add another washer and am undecided. I am tight on money so the $$ will be in the decision making process.

The two choices I am down to are: another cold water 3000psi/3gpm ~$900.00 & stand alone portable hot water heater ~$1500.00 or 1 combo unit 3500psi/4gpm for ~$3700.00

I need two machines but I also need hot water but the $$'s are tight.

Has anyone had any experiance with the stand-alone hot water heaters?

I am leaning towards the combo unit pretty much for the conveniance and the fact that the units are made for each other. I would hate to save a few pennys now that would cost me dollars in the future.

I can afford either machine as long as they do not turn into mistakes.

Look into leasing the equipment. I could not afford it either, but leasing was a viable option. I got a 10% buyout, so when the payments are done, I can buy my trailer for 10% of what it cost.

I would consider a different combo machine. One that will deliver 3000 psi but at 5 gpm will be more versital over the long run.

We have a stand alone LP 980,000 Btu boiler. It is doing a good job for us. The pump that we have it hooked up to can deliver just over 9 gpm. We run at variable pressures and volumes. In the winter months we at times need to have the ability to get a 170 degree temperture rise!

I have a portable burner and the combo units. After using the hotbox, I have set up all the burners so I can change power washers on each burner. Takes alittle re plumbing/wiring but I can change the power washer out if I need to/want to in minutes and keep on truckin. I would get the higher psi/gpm power washer and the hotbox.

Glen, The hot box will work great, but I would look at some of the skid units at xxxxxxxxxx. They have some 5GPM units in the $3200-$3500 price range. That is what I will do next time we need more equiptment.

Right now, the money dictates I go the cheaper/more labor intensive route...Eventually I will be able to get a higher gpm machine but I will probably stay close to the 3000psi mark on the pressure.

It seems to me that 3000psi is adequate for the jobs I am hired to do but the higher gpm would help on the rinsing.

One of my customers was in the same spot so I did him a big favor.
I took an old trade in electric Hot Water Pressure Washer Stripped it down to just the Burner and Coils.
Then I added a flow switch and a fuel solenoid to it
and A-bra-Ca-da-bra one Hot box for $650 out the door.

Here is another conversion possibility. Home made HOTBOX from an old electric unit.
