More problems than can shake a wand at

Sorry for the cryptic manner in which this is presented.

Replaced a one year old Giant unloader (orange) with a blue spring from E-spec. The Giant was causing the pump to chirp (belt driven), and it seemed it wasn't unloading much back into the tank.

Put on the blue spring (forget the model) and when trying to adjust it, could not get it above 2000 psi except when releasing the trigger (going into bypass) and then it would go as far as I could have cranked it.

Using an extension pole that I'd used yesterday with the Giant unloader, today it won't suck soap (did yesterday with the Giant). Got it to suck with standard lance.

Okay, these problems seem kind of bothersome but overcomeable.

Then, my pump starts to pulse (not cavitate) up down up down (full (150 gals) tank). Does this for about 15 minutes (I'm close to the end of the job (7 hours into it) and I just want to finish) then the burner cuts out (oh yeah, that's another reason I replaced the Giant unloader, the burner was constantly running cuz the unloader was not releasing pressure when it went into bypass.

Please help. I have a mega project to start on Sunday night (oh yeah, it's supposed to snow that night) and I'd like to solve these problems ASAP.

Thanx greatly for all your help.

Mark,

I believe your old Giant unloader with the orange spring
was a 22913A which is rated 13 gpm @ 3000 PSI maximum.
1/2" FPT inlet, outlet and bypass ports.

However I am uncertain about what unloader you replaced it with?
"Blue Spring Unloader"
What size are the inlet, outlet and bypass ports?
Are they all female thread? Any markings on unloader?

Also what is the rated GPM and PSI of your p/w?

The bypass piston could be stuck in a partially open / closed position
in the unloader this would prohibit you from reaching full pressure.

I think I may be misunderstanding you here:
"Then, my pump starts to pulse (not cavitate) up down
up down (full (150 gals) tank). Does this for about 15 minutes (I'm close to the
end of the job (7 hours into it) and I just want to finish) then the burner cuts out
(oh yeah, that's another reason I replaced the Giant unloader, the burner was
constantly running cuz the unloader was not releasing pressure when it went into bypass."

The Giant 22913A is a Lock Up Unloader when trigger is closed there is pressure
locked up between the gun and unloader.
I will be expecting your call after 11:00 AM PDT today!
:)

Mark and Mark (Mark Squared?), I recently purchased a couple of unloaders from E.., which came with blue springs. Model 2120 (2124?) 4000 psi, 21 gpm, pressure actuated. Was supposed to be a green spring (i.e. GP green spring knockoff), but was told it was same unloader. May be same one you got Mark.

So far so good.

Mark, thanx for the suggestion of going to Baren's. I did get a parts diagram of the Giant UL. But for that, I would have missed the fact that a certain piece was spring loaded, and therefore should be moving (and not solid like mine was). Cleaned out last years silty sand from the whole thing, and now it works like (almost) new. Not sure what's up with my blue spring from E, but it's not far from the scrap pile at this point.

Sorry it took so long for me to repost. Last week was a blur (working nights is NOT my norm) and Friday AM we headed out of state for a homeschool convention.

Looking forward to next week and a really messy astro turf tennis court.

Have a GREAT week.

I'm taking a shot

Would the "blue spring unloader" be a PA VB 80/150-280 by any chance?

I purchased one as a back up, a buddy purchased it as his primary and he's having that 2000-2200 psi problem also. Thisunloader is rated for 21 gpm and I believe over 4000psi(don't feel like getting the flyer @ the moment) 1/2" inlets, outlets and bypass. Sounds like I need to order a back up for my back up:rolleyes: LOL!

Think it's just a marking error on the whole lot?

RE: 21 GPM blue spring unloader.

Maybe the spring is not heavy enough! Mislabeled defective or??
If you are telling us it works fine up to 2200 psi, I would sucpect a problem with the spring.

Gull Maint:

Yeah, that's my unloader. I guess I thought if it could handle all that gpm and psi, my simple system should work just fine with it.

Maybe it is better at the higher ends.

Thanx to all who tried to help.
