Penofin

Gentlemen & Ladies,

As some of you know, I am pretty well set in my ways as to the products That I use. I have applied Penofin before and havn't had any problems with it other than not lasting very long.

The attached pictures, one being a cedar deck and the other being a mohagony railing shows what has accured in a little short of less than three weeks time. Has anyone used this product with the same results? This deck is attached to a log home and NO, I did not use it on the house ( Thank God ). The deck and railings are being stripped again today and I plan on using the product that I know will work!!!!!

I guess even us old timers need to be reminded once in awhile why we don't use certain products.

mr. bilyeu,

what is the state of the wood in this pic??? is that the way that the wood looked when you came back in 3 weeks?? or is this a pic of during the stripping process??

my question, mr. bilyeu, is why would you use one product on an entire home (i am 99.9% sure i know of which product you speak) and use a different one on the deck?? it seems to me that this would produce a result of two differently-tinted areas. was this a consumer wish or is there a reason that you did it this way?? you said the rails were mahogony, will product X (the one on the house) penetrate that type of wood properly?? take care and good luck on the project, what part of the world are y'all doing this project in??

take care,

Hello Jon,

The job is about 12 miles from home, easy job. We had planed to use the same finish all the way but the home owner got a feather, you know where and insisted that we use penofin on the decks because his painter recomended it. Don't worry, I had him sign a disclaimer before applying it.

This is how it looked after three weeks. The decks looked fine last Friday but came Monday morning, this is how it looked. The customer is paying to have it done over, he said to just leave it but I told him I couldn't leave a job looking that way. I will use the right product this time, you know the one. What I do is cut the product with mineral spirits to reduce the solid content so that it will penatrate better.

Like I said before, I've used this stuff before but it was the older version. This was the first ( and last ) time I've used the new stuff.

Anyway, it's being taken care of and I made a little more money from the job. Now all I have to do is install the new window we cut in the logs and the job is done. On to the next one...
