roof wash

A friend of the family wants me to wash her roof. I've never washed a roof yet, and last time I bid a job without "knowing what I was doing" I got in trouble by A plus. I haven't seen it in while and don't know exactly how big it is. The roof seems pretty steep as far as I can recall. What do you do to keep from falling off a steep roof?? This makes me a lil bit nervous and if I don't find something that sounds good I'm going to pass it on to someone else. I don't know what to charge either. The house is about 4,000 square ft. two stories. I know it's hard for you guys to help with bidding but any info in that area would help. Also, what chems do you use?? I have a 3,000 psi cold water unit. Will a 40 degree tip shoot a wide enough pattern to be safe on ashpalt shingles?? I mean the grit washes into the gutters when it rains. What is a pressure washer going to do to it?? Thanks for your help!

If you research the web you will find that most authorities agree that power washing a roof is inadvisable. Using any of the roof cleaners at low pressure will make the roof slippery. This is a dangerous situation along with high probability that you may cause leaks and shingle damage. Pass on this job.

If I was you I would pass on it simply becasue by your post, you have no experience or working knowledge, or the proper equipment to do it right. I would suggest passing on this one and then doing a lot of research on low pressure roof cleaning setups. I'll give you some key words you might find useful while searching for what you will need.

Shurflo pump
polybraid hose
deep cylce marine battery
pvc wand
chlorine
firehose nozzle
