Roofs.....Maybe, Maybe not!

Hi all,

We are a fairly new business and are considering expanding to roof jobs. I worked for a guy some 10-12 years ago who's specialty was shake roofs by using spike shoes and a turbo nozzle and 3000 psi. My, how the industry has changed.

I have been reading up on roof applications and just want to confirm some things and ask a couple more questions. From what I gather hypochlorite is the preferred method of cleaner for comp and asphalt roofs (what about vinyl) and have seen ranges from 6%-12%What method is preferred to apply without getting on the roof? How long do you leave the cleaner before rinsing? Is a regular garden hose sufficient for the wash?

Is chlorine also preferred for shake roofs? Way back when we used to use Chevron roofing oil to seal the shakes. Is this still acceptable? Again I would rather not climb as I am not as young as I used to be but will hire someone younger and more agile if necessary. Has anyone used the Pitch Witch system with a long extension with success?

Well I've rambled enough for now but thanks in advance for any replies

Roofs

We also are a new company and I have been looking into getting set up to do roofs. I plan on purchasing a Delevan 5800 pump and spraying Wash-Safe industries roof cleaner from the ground or gutter level. Do a search for apple sauce most people here recommend it, I for one have not tried it because we only use biodegradable products to save the headache of replacing peoples lawns and shrubs it is also a strong selling point to higher end customers. Hope this helps from one noob to another.

I never said they were as efficient or economical but we use them to maintain our image as the safest around and our prices reflect the fact that we use things that take a little longer but work quite well for our applications. www.wash-safe.com check them out we order cleaning agents from them and we use weather-boss for stains and stripping.

Thats when a ground guy comes in to play..all about rinse....rinse....guy on the ground and one on the roof and most of the time plants are safe

Thanks guys,

I think I'll have to lean towards "Jet-Stream" mind set as I would rather make sure it gets clean the first time with as much ease as possible and soak the hell out of the plants/yard.

Still have'nt heard anyone's thoughts on shake roof wash?

Hi guys,

thanks for everyone's input. I picked up some Sodium Hyp (Hass Multi-Chlor) yesterday which is at 12.5%. I have seen a few times on here where it is suggested to add some TSP to my solution. But how much? and with such a high percentage is 60-chem/40-water still an O.K. mix?

I have a couple roofs to do tomorrow and don't need any surprises.

Thanks all,

Lynn
