Urethane on a deck?

I have a bid on a deck. They are not certain what the contractor who built it last year applied. But the finish is nearly gone except for some very small patches on part of the rails.
It is slick and shiny with a mirror like reflection. The color of old school desk with a nice poly-urethane shine. The deck itself is as grayed as if it was never finished (only a year old) the owner says the finish was so slick her dog was slide when it was wet from rain.

It is not a problem now, just trying to beat the curiosity of what this could have been...

Sikkens perhaps? But I have a hard time believing it is almost entirely gone now if it is Sikkens............good luck.

I have seen that look from a few coats of Behr. Not sure which product of theirs. Raw Hide maybe. This deck was completely gone too. Except for a section under a little overhang by the back door.

That's were I saw what you are talking about. The guy said it was Behr.

slick finish

It could be any over applied coating type of finish. When dried they will leave a shiny surface if left to puddle. By the way you describe it though it sounds like Spar Varnish. We strip this from exterior wooden garage doors quite frequently when we refinish them. Spar varnish is available in a matte, semi gloss, and gloss finish. Usually on a deck it will peel although.

They checked and said it was a Behr product as far as they know. And it's just some small spots left on the sides of part of the handrails.
