Thanks Mike,
I just did a quick search and saw Gortex has nylon in it.
I'll tell you a funny story. When I was looking for a good set of water proofs for brickcleaning I went to a commercial marine store as I was sick of ripping the cheap throw away yellow pvc wet weather gear, I wanted something I could wash and that was comfortable. I came across these bib brace overalls that they wear on the Americas' Cup Yachts. I thought yeah! this is the ticket, I didn't care how much they cost $400 US, I just wanted to keep dry in the winter at that price, I thought you get what you pay for.
The sales guy was very envious, 'Man, I wish I had a pair of these'. So the next day I rocked up to work in these spiffy new red and blue overalls, they felt great to wear, I felt like a million dollars, I looked like a fireman. So sprayed the hydrochloric acid away over the bricks and washed them down etc all day. Took the overalls of at the end of the day and I was as dry as a desert.
The next morning I went to put them on and my foot went straight through the knee, so pulled them up to see in front of me and you would swear I had grilled them over a camp fire. The acid attacked the nylon overnight even after I'd rinsed them off. I rang the guy at the store and he nearly cried, I said hey 'shit happens'. I threw them in the garbage. Neither of us even thought ahead that the acid would attack them, that's just part of the learning curve of dealing with acids, bases, solvent etc.
So, I guess I will still have to keep searching for boots that are PVC and breathable.
