Hi Gang,

Just a few thoughts on marketing our services as Carpet Cleaning Pro's, heres a few things that I do.

When I complete a job for a customer I always leave them a gift pack which I think is well presented in a seal again poly bag,
The contents and costs are as follows costs are UK Pounds.

1) Printed Stain Removal Guide cost £40.00 per 1,000
2) Key fob with the business name and Freephone number printed onto side one of an insert, and a message on side two such as " If you are happy with the service that we provide, please tell others, if not PLEASE TELL US".

The blank seethru keyfobs cost £79.00 per 1,000
The Coloured Inserts I design myself and have them Colour Photocopied Cost £5.00 per 1,000 inserts
3) Stick Ball Pen with Name & Freephone Number foil Blocked Cost £85.00 per 1,000
4) Additional Price list Cost £3.00 per 1,000

5) the poly Bags cost me about £40.00 per 1,000

In Total the cost per customer runs at about 50pence (75 - 80 Cents) (I Think)


When I Do a Leaflet Drop, I advertise the above gift pack and also advertise the fact that I run a free monthly Prize Draw for for a £10 Gift voucher, I Always Always Always made sure that the draw is made on the first day of each month and ask the first customer of the new month to pick the winner from the previous month, the way the draw is made, is that I put every invoice number onto a cloakroom ticket after the job is done and put them into a sealed box, Customer puts his/her hand in and pulls out the winning invoice No.

The gift voucher is always sent out that night with a covering letter etc.

Another tip if you can afford to do it, is to have a Toll Free (freephone in the UK) number, I have seen my business really take of since I got a freephone number, quite a few customers have even said they phoned me first becouse the calls free.

I also leave a gift package when I am done. What I leave is a memo board that has my companys name & logo on it, with a free spotting guide in the back. The cost on that is $1.29 ea. I also leave a free bottle of spotter with my company name & number on it. This costs me 3.31 per 12oz bottle. I also give them lifetime refills. I also put a label on their vacuum cleaner that has my number on it. I also include information on other services that I can provide them as well as info on my referral program.

The next day we do a quality service call to ensure client satisfaction. As well we send out a thank you letter and include a free movie rental from Blockbusters with a bag of microwave popcorn. We also remind them of our referral program in this package.

The cost of all this is about $10. But we have a 80% retention rate on our cleints. And we also get about 3 referrals on average per client.
