I need a good heavyduty rig, but money is so tight. anyone tell me about mounting a pump? I may have to use a vertical shaft engine (12-15 hp) but I plan to put a belt between it and the pump.

Simply put, DON'T.

A vertical shaft engine will suffer one or all of the following problems; shaft tear out, unbalanced movement causing bearing failure, poor performance, overheating.

There is no pump available for a vertical shaft engine that is of any value to a professional; even those for consumer use are of little if any value.
