My friend and I have everything set to start up the business, but what we lack is a car/vehicle to pull around the trailer. Any suggestions on how to acquire one at minimal cost?

Look in your local papers for a used Pickup truck that will have enough GVWR to pull and carry your equipment. Also go to ebay to at least look at the used trucks that are there so you can get a better idea in what your looking for.

You can also go with a Van if its strong enough to pull your trailer or even a box truck. I would not buy any car to pull your trailer for a couple of reasons and one of them being that you will not look to professional pulling up in a car to powerwashed. I've done that a few times when I first started and it look terrible. Take it from us old timers(10 yrs and counting).

We haven't bought anything yet, we have just been looking at everything and estimating our expenses. Since my partner may not be interested in taking up a loan, I may do this myself and get a loan to buy a truck. Would a pick-up be sufficient for carrying my equipment, or is a trailer really necessary?

Depends

If your starting out with a "cart" powerwasher then the truck would work but regardless, when you eventually upgrade to your own "tank" system investing in a trailer of some sort will undoubtably be required.

The word "we" could be a problem, not always does a partner work out,to many logs, trees and rivers stands in the way.Good luck to both of you...

I would get trasportation first. A van or a pickup works nice. I started with a pickup but things get rusted fast back in there so I went to a van and then another and then another. Life is good with a van! :<)

It appears to me that not having a vehicle is a major problem for you. In order to best decide what kind of vehicle you will need, you first need to identify what kind of work you plan to go after, and what equipment you will be hauling.

But as a basic starting point, I'd look at a full size pickup with a v8 engine. Sure a smaller truck would work for the time being, but you just don't have much room to grow, weight and equipment adds up fast.

Where to get a vehicle? Look in the same places you'd look to buy any other kind of vehicle. Get yourself a Tradin' Times magazine and start there.
