Briggs & Stratton (junk)

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY BRIGGS AND STRATTON MOTORS FOR YOUR PRESSURE WASHER.
THEY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR LOW OIL ENGINE SHUTDOWN, THE PROBLEM IS THEY DON'T WORK!
THIS OF COURSE GETS THEM OUT OF WARRANTING MOTORS. YOU WILL GET THE RUN AROUND FROM EVERYBODY. THEY WILL SAY EVERYTIME THAT YOU JUST RAN IT OUT OF OIL. I BOUGHT THIS BRIGGS FOR THIS SAFETY FEATURE SO MY EHGINES WON'T GET RUN OUT OF OIL.
I HAVE OWNED MANY A HONDA OVER THE YEARS AND SINCE THERE ARE NO HONDA DEALERS IN MY AREA I DECIDED TO GO WITH BRIGGS FOR BETTER SERVICE AND PARTS AVALIBILITY. ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT BRIGGS ARE JUNK. AND THERE WARRANTIES ARE FILLED WITH GRAY AREA, YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTIME!!!!!

Tony are you sure that the low oil pressure switch was connected?

I know that on Kohler it does not come from the factory connected, the dealer sometimes does connect them but most don't so you would have to do it yourself.

I did but learned it slows down the starting up of the motor so undid it.

I do check my oil every day before I fire up for the first time, but then I check other things too as part of pre startup list.

Find out if it was/is connected, if it is then it could have malfunctioned which is or should be covered under warrantry.

Don't assume it was working.

Not about to knock B&G and I have never owned one either so have no opinion.

It is a safty devise only. You still have to check
your oil daily.Briggs does make a great motor.
If you keep your cool you will get it replaced
unless you ran it out of oil and took it in for service
that way-empty!

Good Luck

Well

I had mine for 4 or 5 years and had the same problem. I blame myself for not checking every time I used it. I would check every few days. I just had a blow out earlier this year and had no low oil warning either. I have had other engines as well and there low oil warning did work.

I check everyday now. I feel it should have worked, but I should have check as well.

Between three different engine brands on our machines, our one Honda is the only one we have had probs with the Low Press Cut-off. But I have always passed it off as a bad switch, not neccessarily all Honda's.
Have always had the best service with B&S!

But every company makes a lemon on occassion....

I had the local dealer run a test on the Low oil shut off and it
did not work and was connected.
I don't do any washing anymore but I have employees checking
on a routine basis. I have only had this motor 1 1/2 years.
I was treated differently because I am a commercial contractor.
They also said that is a "Safety device" if that safety device was operating correctly then I wouldn't probably be out all this money!
if operatng correctly the engine would have shutdown before doing any internal damage.
I know that I got a lemon of a motor and they don't want to do anything about it.

I just needed someplace to vent my frustration about this because I feel I have been ripped off by them not honoring the two year warranty on Vangaurd's.

It's like everything else there is always two sides to a story..... i have been in this business for 7 years and always had a briggs (vangaurd ).... and never had a problem. why well i figure it this way i paid good money for this machine and i treat it like gold... i dont just dump gas in it and put it to work i check the oil every time before i fire it up.... and change the oil and filter every 25 hours... they recommend 50 hours for a change . i do half that b/c it works hard so i treat it right...

I've placed all my machines on a strict diet of Mobil 1. Yes, synthetic all the way. And the pump oil, well, straight-30 non-detergent, changed twice a season. Seems to be working well for me.
With the synthetic lubricant, I don't have to worry about hours so much. I just change it twice a season. Even at that, the used oil comes out slicker than the proverbial sn*t on a doorknob!

I've had bad engines in just about every brand, lemons do happen. My Vanguards have been fine for the most part
