Welcome Washerboy,

Here in the Southern States it's my understanding that the car lots are paying about half that much, about $2.00 a car. One man sprays and 4 or 5 guys wipe. They can knock out quiet a few cars in a short length of time which makes for a pretty fair price. My on personal opinion, I wouldn't do it for less than $4.00 a car. If your doing a basic spray and wipe, I think that's a pretty fair price. If you plan on spending considerably more time on each car, say 50% exterior detail, you should raise the price a dollar or two. One person can get tied up pretty long on each car if their not careful, so remember, spray wipe and move on.
As for the detergent, (just my opinion) the less detergent and chemicals you can apply the better. I know in the South, most of the car and truck hounds
would shoot ya if you put liquid wax or soaps on their ride. Even the hich profile RV Lovers are very careful and normally use only a mild cleanser.

Hope this helps.
Just my opinion

I have heard most people doing it for much less per car, but what we have to remember here is there are only 15 -20 cars per lot.........not like a new car dealer with 400 or so. So, the higher price is justifyed. But is it enough? I guess you won't know until you try it. Good luck.

Hey Washerboy, how many carlots does he have? 15 to 20 cars shouldn't take about a hour for 2 people. One spraying and one with a chamois. If they have been detailed before they were put on the lot, you want need any cleaner, if not you might use it for the first time. 20 cars @ $4.00 = $80 per hour minus helper=$20 so you make $60 per hour. Not bad just need to find enough work to last all day.........

Washerboy,
My main income comes from washing carlots. I do three large dealers. One lot has anywhere from 700 to 1000 cars. The other two lots have roughly 300 to 400. I also do a local JD Byrider with about 50 cars. I use just two pwople One guys to soap/handmitt the car and the other guy to rinse. (the car dealer requests that we handmitt each car once a week) I use RO water therefore I don't do any chamois work. I get $1.50 per car for the larger lots and $2.00 for the smaller lot. I live in the midwest and that seems to be the going price for car lots. These dealers won't even pay me more for trucks. If this guys wants to pay you $4.00 per car you better jump on it. My main concern would be making sure you are going to get paid. I invoice weekly here because of the number of cars we wash. I would asked to be paid the day you provide the service.
If you want any additional info on car lot washing please feel free to e-mail me @ tony.ell@indsys.ge.com
Good Luck

Just keep in mind to remember to take it one day at a time...IOW...Consider this kind of work "Gravy"...I.E...Most Car Dealers (New & Used) will dump you and hire the first other guy who will do them for $3.99 instead of $4.00...LOL !!!

(A slight exaggeration,
but NOT by much <g> )

Good Luck.
