I,m having trouble with my chevy motor. 4,3 v 6. When I push down on the distributor it will start! If you dont put pressure on the distributor it will not start or even spark or push fuel into carb.
Must have short somewhere, Just put new cap rotor wires on it a month ago. Whloe distributor shot? 1990 G-20 3/4 ton.
I know its off topic, Sorry. Got to get her going to get back to work. There is a place on bottom of distributor where two clips go in it.This plug receptacle gets HOT to the touch when trying to start it. When I put pressure on the Top of the Distributor and pull towards back of vechicle it will start. Know any good Chevy
forums? Thank you mtngoat167@yahoo.com

It sounds like you have a short in the wires or wired wrong one. When you push down on it,it sounds like it pushs the wires apart,by the wires getting hot to the touch means a small short,if the short gets worse it will burn the wires into which may burn your truck.
Chevy has several different forums, makes, models and year models but I haven't a link to them.

Could be pick up coil has gone bad? i will take it apart tomorrow and check wiring. It cut out on me today. Managed to get it home. The wires for the computer box were wright under the drivers feet! and were worn rite through. Fixed that .Now I,ve got distributor problem. Probably fried the distributor when the wires wore thin?
On a lighter note let it burn the insurance is paid up lol

insurance is paid up

lol,I thought the same thing when they stoled my truck but I left the keys in it and my insurance states it want pay off.I fished for 6 days thinking I was covered if stolen, sure glad I didn't know about the key thingy when fishing.I fished for 6 day without a worry and now I make sure the keys are in my pocket, one less worry when fishing makes a great day.Good luck in finding your problem,I know how things go when having truck problems while trying to make a living.

The 4.3 is notorious for eating distributors. The fact that you can press on it and make it start should tell you that something is worn out. There is obviously movement that should not be there.

Replace the distributor.
