Exterior Repairs

Do any of you guys offer exterior repair and maintenace work? Example - minor deck repair or caulking. I am thinking about offering a "Roof Tune-up" along with cleaning the roof. A Roof Tune-up would be caulking the flashings and around vent pipes and chimney, etc. What do you think?

Not something we offer Tim but sounds like a good idea.

We do deck repair. We have found that a lot of decks need to to have some spindles , railings and or floor decking replaced. This can be a big plus if you have the knowledge and tools to do the job. If you are going to clean & seal or stain you can market is as a complete package.

Thats what I intend to do. I going to offer a "Exterior Spring Home Inspection", which I will look at the foundation, siding, driveways, walkways, gutters, roof, attachments, etc. I will give a report on maintenace and cleaning needed. I also, will offer a "Roof Tune-up" package.

Any other ideas?

dont forget basements they get harmfull mold and mildew you will need a 55 gal wet/dry vac that can pump itself out by means of a garden hose. Also can seal the walls.

Hey Tim,

Watch out for the word INSPECTION, some states require anyone performing an Inspection to have a Home Inspection License. It's all in the wording.... perfectly fine for you to act as a consultant...

I am a Lic. Home Insector. I own and operate a home inspection business. I currently in the process of starting a exterior power washing and sealant business.

You are absolutely right. Inspection is not a good word to use. Some states are very strict on that issue.

Tim,

Another add-on that would go perfect with your Home Inspection Biz would be Chimney Cleaning/Repairs/Inspections. Good Luck in the PW biz. Have a great Holiday Season.

There is alot of info to learn with Chimney's.... But, not overbearing. There are Certification programs in every state. Again, you don't need to be certified. It just helps. The overhead isn't very high...... Sweeping is easy, For Inspections we use a home-made camera set-up to look into a chimney. One of those $100.00 wireless cameras attached to Sweeping poles. A little monitor and VCR at the Receiver end. This shows exactly what is present inside a chimney.... plus records it for the homeowner to see. There is a very good profit margin in Chimney relines. If you don't have experience in the relines, pass it off to another sweep and take a cut. I am a certified sweep in PA, but haven't swept a chimney for pay in almost 7 years. The PW biz got too big... we don't need that extra $$$ flow over the winter.... but it may be a perfect fit for your situation. Check out www.NCSG.org. for some more info.

Good idea

Just might want to think about the roof “tune upâ€￾, don't want to marry a bad roof for a little repair job. Most folks who want to patch a roof usually are the cheap ones (as most blanket statements go there are exceptions), just watch out for the can of worms you could be opening for a couple of bucks. But I am one of the guys who think it is a requirement to have more than just power washing as a business.
