Finnally moved but computer fried: Help!

Hi, I'm finally moved and here in TN (moved from MO). Everything was going great until my computer fried. Something went wrong with the power supply and it toasted the mother board... ugh.

All of my flyers and marketing materials were on that computer and I won't be able to get them back until I'm able to get it fixed. In the mean time, my sister gave me her old (slow) computer to use until I can get mine fix.

Along with all the flyers that I lost, I lost all my before and after pictures.

Would anyone loan me a before and after set of pictures of a roof cleaning that I could use until I get my old computer back up?

If you have any pictures that I could use, they can be emailed to hadishon@yahoo.com or posted here.

I'm really glad I posted my logo on these forums before or else it would be lost also. (another good thing about these forums).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

What kind of computer was it? I have an apparatus that you connect a hard drive to and it allows you to plug it into a USB port on another computer and get the data off of it.

Not sure how that would work with a desktop machine........

How technically literate are you? You can swap hard drives easily enough...You may have to do a little configuring with drivers to get your graphics, sound, etc working properly, but it may save you some time trying to recreate stuff.

I hope you have backups. Are you sure the drive isn't fried too? If you're not backing up now, start! Doesn't matter how new or old your computer is, your hard drive could take a dump at any time, and if you're not backed up you've lost a hell of a lot of work!

2 fixes for ya here.

How do you know the mobo is fried, Did u take it to a tech?

If so they should have been able to get you a new mobo & chip pretty cheap. Don't need the fastest, just one that will work. In most cases any reputable geek shop should be able to furnish you a used board & chip for next to nothing,, $50

As a last resort just take your box & your sisters to a geek shop & tell them to plop your Harddrive into your sisters as a slave drive. (That is if you don't know how to yourself, which I assume you don't elsewise it'd be fixed already :) )They shouldn't charge you more than $20 bucks, only takes about 10 minutes to do (so long as they are compatible that is)

Thanks for the suggestions. One of the problems is that my computer was a compact tower desktop so it isn't built like a regular tower. I'm getting a new mother board and regular tower and I'm gonna plug in the items that will work like my cd player, network cards, etc and most importantly, my hard drive.

On my old computer, the power unit became bad and it set too much power to the mother board. The hard drive and everthing else seem to be fine.

I made up some flyers and stuff on my sisters old computer to use in marketing until I can get the new computer going which will probably be a week or two. By then, I'm hoping I'll really need it for my booking programs and such.

Michael:

How do you know they're fine? With the motherboard fried, there's no way to test other components, unless you had a tech test them. Sending too much voltage to the motherboard can fry everything connected to it, which is everything else.

Take Cody's advice and have a tech stick your drive in your sister's computer as a slave.
