Did anybody here ever use a Fire hydrant to fill up there water tank? And if so did you need a permit from the Water Authority to do so?
Last year I bought a fire hydrant hose and tool so I could use there water to fill up my tank. Why because for one a fire hydrant shoots out water so much faster than a regular house water spicket and also there is a hydrant right next to my driveway which made doing this ideal. Somebody told me you can fill a 500 gal tank in 5 minutes with a fire hydrant where as water from a house would take over an hour to do the same. Also hoping to crack the commercial cleaning industry filling up with a fire hydrant would be a necessity no doubt. Now of course after buying the hose and tool I call up the water authority and they tell me a permit to use there fire hydrants is $350/year and NO they don't give out permits to powerwashers. And to make matters worse if you are caught using the hydrants with no permit you will be fine $2000 for the first offense and can be charged criminally.(Does any one remember the moderator aran telling someone a while back to go ahead and steal water?) Any way landscapers are aloud to get hydrant permits but powerwashers are not. Boy was I pissed. Has anybody ever ran into this problem and do you need a permit to use a fire hydrant for powerwashing where you work? -John-
