Why is that some machines require a solid fuel pattern and others require
a cone pattern?
In my equipment it has been my experience that a solid pattern works better.

Type of burner?

Depending on the diameter of coil, length, model burner and other
variables, equipment manufacturers will use different fuel nozzles.

It is important to match the proper spray pattern to the application.

The most common nozzles are A or B the "A" sometimes referrred to
as (A/H) nozzles are hollow cone nozzles, They distribute atomized
fuel particles evenly toward the outside of the spray cone. The "B"
or solid cone spray nozzles concentrate the fuel particles toward
the center of the flame.

You can learn more about oil burner nozzles at:

Hope this helps.

When replacing fuel nozzles it is best to replace with an
identical new nozzle.
