I just wanted to say something about this guy. I know he hasn't been the most popular guy on here lately but I just want to let people know that this guy has helped me out so much. He is within 20 miles of me so you can say we share the same market. He has set me up with a couple accounts. He has came out and shown me how to do certain things. He has taken himself out of the yellow pages in my area and sent other advertisers to me. He told the valu-pak people to ask me if I wanted to advertise the area first and if I didn't do it he would. I had machine trouble two weeks ago and he came out and helped get me going again. He helps me with equipment, chemicals, advise, you name it. He has given me free chems, tanks, pump up sprayer, etc. He says I can call on him anytime. I don't know of too many people that would help out the competition like that. Granted, I am not a huge threat to him but still, most people view it as a dog eat dog world. I know people have said he isn't very professional but I disagree. He has been very professional to me. He may not always say the most appropriate things but he is a good guy and I think he is being given a bad rap. I think he just gets upset that he can't speak his mind. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just wanted to let people know a little more about him then what you see on the boards. I know most people view him as cocky and arrogant. He might be. All I know is that when I go into a guy's shop and see just a fraction of the stuff he has and all the work he does and when he speaks I listen. The guy didn't get this far from being unprofessional.

Gunn Man,

I have a guy in my area the same way as far as help! Richard Craig- Pro Wash.

Rick is full time and very sucessful. Myself I am full time part time. Weekends and evenings going on eight years now. No low balling just a limited clientale.

While we work in the same area and I pose no threat to Rick. He has on many occasions given time to me for various questions. I have gained a great deal of knowlwdge from him. I have been to his shop seen his equipment ect. From telling me how to adjust rotary union I thought was trash, to pump rebuilding, to what soap to use. What is best 120 or 12 v and the do's and don'ts.

Rick looks at it as elevating the professionalism in the business.
I am sure that he has helped many others over the past eight years.

You see Richard Craig is a True Professional!

Thanks for all the help Rick!

I would like to second what Steve Gunn has stated about Mike Gwas. I am VERY new to the business, in fact I am picking up my brand-new rig from another excellent and often misunderstood member of this board, Justin K. in OH tomorrow.

Justin put me in touch with Mike Gwas, who in turn extended an offer for me to join him and his crew at one of their largest commercial accounts last week, which I, of course, accepted. While there, Mike made sure to spend additional time with me, covering a lot of basic things about the industry, as well as show me several tips and tricks about the rig setup and equipment
(not to mention the valuable pricing strategies he suggested).

This guy sets the bar as to what a mentor should be. Like Steve mentioned earlier, he has offered his personal assistance if I am ever in a jam or need to ask any questions. I get this same outstanding benefit from Justin, but again, Mike is a "COMPETITOR", not a supplier.

There is no question regarding the lack of professionalism from some of the yahoos that buy a $400 machine from Home Depot, throw it in a rust-bucket-of-a-truck, and give the industry a bad reputation. I'm sure we've all seen "snaggle-tooth" out there freaking out potential customers when they show up to give an "estimate". Kudos to Justin and Mike for setting the bar and standards for what this industry should be about!!!

There is nobody out there I would rather have in my corner!

Thanks for initiating this thread, Steve.

Steve you are lucky to find a MAN like Gwas. He sounds like a true mentor and a great guy. Pressure washers in my area will not help anyone out, there is a lot of competition in N. FL. I have one Friend/ fellow pressure washer that sends me work. Gwas set the bar very high. Sometimes I think some posts get taken out of context or people read something between the lines?

Mike:

I'm glad to see another N. Florida washer on the boards. I'm in Gainesville, and just getting started. Will be part timing it for a while, but hope to be full timewithin a few months, depending on how things go, and also a few variables at my day job. I have spent the past four months accumulating equipment and reading everything on this and other boards so when I do hit this thing I can hit it running and hopefully not run into many of the pitfalls that others have run into.

Not sure how long you've been in the business, but I'd be glad to help out any way I can. Not sure what I can offer, but I'm all in favor of cooperating with local washers. We're not really competitors, but close enough. I've got one guy here locally with whom I share information and tips, etc. Don't really know any of the other companies in town yet.

If you ever find yourself in need of a hand with something on a weekend or at night, let me know! If I do ever get someone wanting work over in your area I'll be glad to refer them your way. You're about 2 hours or so from my house, so its a bit too far to go for most jobs.

There's too much dirt out there that needs cleaning to worry much about who else is doing the cleaning.
